The five-year trial, conducted in conjunction with the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at the University of Connecticut, followed nearly 600 students from 12 schools in New Haven.

In schools with enhanced nutrition policies and programs, students had healthier body mass index trajectories (a measure of obesity) over time, and by the end of the study they reported healthier behaviors than their peers in schools without the nutrition policies and programs. Students in schools with enhanced support to implement nutrition policies had an increase in BMI percentile of less than 1%, compared with students in schools without enhanced support for these policies and programs who demonstrated increases of 3% to 4%. The study is published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

“These findings can guide future school and community interventions. Childhood obesity is a serious health threat, and schools are a vital way to reach children and their families to reduce risks and promote health,” said lead author Jeannette Ickovics, the Samuel and Liselotte Herman Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Yale School of Public Health. “These findings strongly support previous administration policies that provided healthier food for all children in public schools.” These policies were rolled back last week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The study is one of the first school-based policy intervention studies that followed students through middle school. The researchers analyzed both behavioral and biological indicators. Results are among the most compelling to date, said the researchers, perhaps because of the strong community-university partnership, and the recognition that health and academic achievement often go hand-in-hand.

“This is some of the strongest evidence we have to date that nutrition education and promoting healthy eating behaviors in the classroom and cafeteria can have a meaningful impact on children’s health,” said Marlene Schwartz, director of the Rudd Center and senior study author. “These findings can inform how we approach federal wellness policy requirements and implementation in schools to help mitigate childhood obesity.”

The nutritional interventions in the schools studied included ensuring that all school-based meals met federal nutritional criteria; providing nutritional newsletters for students and their families; school-wide campaigns to limit sugary drinks and encourage the use of water; and limiting the use of food or beverages as rewards for academic performance or good behavior.

Researchers also tested whether a series of policies to promote physical activity would impact adolescent body mass index. They determined that the physical activity policies alone had little or no impact on body mass index.

In the study authors said that more than one in five American teenagers are currently obese, and as many as one in two are overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese early in life affects health across the lifespan, contributing to a range of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and depression that reduce productivity and shorten life expectancy.

Nicole Kidman’s ability to tackle any role that comes her way is a testament to her legacy as a Hollywood star. Before getting worldwide recognition, Kidman started out in small projects in Australia and was encouraged by Jane Campion to keep up with the good work. Although the fame came after her relationship with Tom Cruise, Kidman made sure to show that her talent was all she needed to keep the “Mrs. Cruise” title from taking the spotlight. Often portraying ambiguous female leads facing highs and lows, as of today, the actor and producer has won an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, six Golden Globes, and a BAFTA.

Under Stanley Kubrick’s brilliant direction, Kidman was paired with her former husband in this psychological narrative centered on a complex couple. She plays Alice Harford, a stunning woman who gives way to extra-marital fantasies despite never actually giving into them in real life. Once she reveals this to her husband, Dr. Bill Harford (Cruise), he becomes haunted by the thought of his wife cheating on him, so much so that he is drawn to multiple situations that bring up infidelity. Even though Kidman’s role has less screen time than her counterpart, her powerful gaze and shocking revelation are what drive the film in its entirety. Not to mention the way she delivers the last line!

A star destined to a tragic fate; Satine still stands as one of Kidman’s primary accolades. The actor’s ability to show both confidence on a cabaret stage while singing, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” and the fragility of dying from a terminal illness is what makes this performance a standout. There is nothing more heart-wrenching than seeing Satine and Christian (Ewan McGregor) sing “Come What May” in an over-the-top stage number that feels triumphant but turns devastating. No wonder this was the first role of Kidman’s to earn the Oscar nomination.

The Others was released in the same year as Moulin Rouge. Despite the difference in tone and genre, both films featured incredible performances by Kidman. In this psychological thriller, Kidman plays a religious single mother of two, who decides to move to a secluded mansion she used to live in when she was younger. As Grace waits for the return of her husband from the war, she tries to take care of her children and protect them from the horrors that come with the arrival of three mysterious servants. Seeing the actor immerse herself into a haunting discovery at the end keeps viewers guessing up to the spell-bounding twist.

Playing real-life figures has happened more than once throughout Kidman’s career, but all eyes turned towards her when she played the late Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Although the costume and makeup helped her get into character (especially the nose prosthetic), Kidman really blew audiences away by infusing Woolf’s journey with mental illness and her affability when writing. Even though the actor was joined by powerhouses Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore, her performance stands out and deservingly received the Oscar for Best Actress in 2003.

It is no secret that Kidman is drawn to meaty roles that often address the different facets of grief and trauma. In this case, she plays Becca, a woman trying to recover after her son died in an accident. As Becca and her husband Howie (Aaron Eckhart) navigate their crumbling relationship given their diverging ways of copying with grief, it is evident that Kidman’s character is incredibly suppressed by the loss of her son. She constantly has tears running down her face and can’t carry on with day-to-day activities without getting distracted. Despite the film being low budget, the stellar portrayal led to nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

For someone to hold a supporting role and use the few times they show up on the screen impactfully is no easy task. Yet, Kidman warmed hearts as an Australian foster mother to Saroo (Dev Patel), an Indian boy who accidentally gets lost on a train to Kolkata. Raising him with love and devotion, viewers can’t help but sympathize with her character as you see her interact with Saroo throughout his coming-of-age journey.
If you haven’t seen a Yorgos Lanthimos production before then let me warn you that his films follow a unique style that may or may not weird you out. The Killing of the Sacred Deer is a perfect example of this. The story is centered on Dr. Stephen Murphy (Colin Farrell) and his family, who are haunted by the son of a former patient who died during a surgery led by Murphy. Once the teenager’s intent is revealed, Murphy and his family must fight for their lives. Kidman plays Murphy’s wife, who constantly tries to keep her composure while on the brink of madness when she realizes that her whole family is at risk.

Kidman has been involved in a couple of tv projects, but none like Big Little Lies. She plays Celeste, a stay-at-home mom who hides an abusive relationship with her husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard). From the outside, it seems like Celeste’s family is picture-perfect when in reality, they are far from being ideal. The more you get to know what happens inside their home, especially when she tries to confront Perry, the more you want her to get away from him. Celeste’s journey in recognizing that she is in an abusive relationship and that she must make the move for the sake of herself and her children is one of the most powerful character developments of the series.

Another biopic to enter the list, Kidman’s most recent film focuses on one of America’s iconic celebrity couples: Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem). Although the actor has portrayed well-known figures like Virginia Woolf and Grace Kelly before, tackling Lucille Ball in a believable manner is another outstanding accomplishment on her part. Kidman’s Lucille is funny when the cameras are rolling, but a visionary aiming at perfection whenever they aren’t. Seeing her struggle when dealing with TV executives, a political scandal, and the ever-present feeling that her husband isn’t as attached to her as he used to be is what makes the part a perfect fit for Kidman. This role shows off Kidman’s range and proves to everyone that she is getting better and better with every new opportunity.

Although she understands his urge to figure out the gaps of what happened to his family since the train incident, Sue feels upset that she will never be seen as his legitimate mother.

Wynonna Earp is about a fictional 21st-century descendant Wyatt Earp. She is tasked with taking down demon Revenants, the reincarnated outlaws her ancestor killed in his day, due to a curse bestowed upon him. She does so with help from her sister, Waverly, two local cops, and Wyatt’s best friend, Doc Holliday himself, among others.

Scrofano portrays the titular character in the fan-favorite series, which airs on the NBCUniversal-owned Syfy network in the U.S. and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in its native Canada. The show experienced a surge in popularity after debuting on Netflix, where the first three seasons are currently available.

How Wynonna has changed since Season 1

At first, Wynonna needed the training of Deputy Marshall Xavier Dolls of the mysterious Black Badge Division. But now, in season 4, she’s gotten into the swing of things. It took her just two episodes to get Doc and Waverly out of the Garden of Eden (with some help, of course). But a new challenge arises now that she’s broken the curse.

“She’s not only accepted her role as the Earp heir, but it has come to define her,” Scrofano told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Where she used to want to escape it, she now clings to it as her only real identity, and it gives her a purpose.”

Season 4 sees Wynonna without Peacemaker

In the season 3 finale, Wynonna’s mystical gun, called Peacemaker, becomes a sword and is used to open the Garden of Eden. Without it, things may change. “Wynonna’s confidence comes from her trusty sidekick and trying to navigate demons without it raises the stakes for her,” said Scrofano.

“As much as it would be fun to explore different weapons, I don’t think Wynonna is Wynonna Earp without Peacemaker,” she continued when asked what her character will use to fight now. “If she does try to cheat on Peacemaker with another weapon, I hope she fails miserably and hilariously and gets herpes,” Scrofano adds.

Season 3 also saw Wynonna lose her boss, Dolls, with whom she had romantic tension. “Wynonna will always love Dolls,” said Scrofano. “In many ways, she is who she is because he guided her and gave her confidence. I think Wynonna learning to trust probably came from him too.”

Despite what it might mean for Wynonna and her baby daddy, Doc, the actor would be happy if Dolls was still alive. “I think that if he were still with her, Wynonna would actually be able to love herself because if someone as morally ‘good’ as Dolls could love her, then I think it would convince her that she is actually worth loving,” Scrofano said. “And that would be worth all the love triangles in the world.”

«Ciao ragazzi come state?

«Ciao ragazzi come state?

This Sunday, February 13, 2022, is Super Bowl LVI, and as always, we can expect several movie spots to air during the big game. It’s rare for a year to go by without at least one horror property being among those sneak peek preview spots that studios shell out millions of dollars for, with recent genre movies to get the Super Bowl spotlight including The Cloverfield Paradox (remember THAT surprise?!), The Invisible Man, Old, A Quiet Place Part II, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. What movies can we expect to see at this year’s Super Bowl, you ask?

The biggest potential debut for this year’s Super Bowl, on the horror front at least, is Jordan Peele‘s new movie Nope, which we still know very, very little about. In fact, all we really know about Peele’s third horror movie at this time is the cast, and the only marketing we’ve gotten up to this point is a poster from last year that has left us speculating for months now.

Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) will be reteaming with Peele on the mysterious movie, with the cast also including Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead,” Mayhem) and Keke Palmer (“Scream”). Michael Wincott (The Crow), Barbie Ferreira and Brandon Perea also star.

Universal currently has Peele’s Nope set for July 22, 2022, and it’s certainly one project that would warrant a big time Super Bowl spend from the studio. Peele’s projects are no stranger to Super Bowl Sunday, with the first tease for the short-lived “Twilight Zone” reboot airing during the Super Bowl back in 2019. Peele’s second movie Us also had a Super Bowl spot.

What leads us to believe Nope will be represented this year? Well, it’s the perfect time to start the marketing campaign for Nope, and it’s interesting to note that the official Monkeypaw Productions account on Twitter just last week tweeted out the movie’s teaser poster again. It would seem they’re priming the pump for the marketing to begin in earnest.

We can also expect Jurassic World: Dominion to have a presence at the Super Bowl, another Universal property that’s coming this summer. Dominion, the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, brings the dinosaurs back to theaters on June 10, 2022, and the movie has already been crashing the Winter Olympics this month with a series of fun TV spots.

It’s probably safe to expect a fresh Super Bowl-themed Dominion spot from Universal this coming Sunday night, or perhaps even the first official trailer for the new movie.

The only other genre movie on our radar for the big game this year is Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is said to be the MCU’s first true horror movie.

Production recently wrapped on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will technically be Sam Raimi’s first horror movie in more than 10 years and first Marvel superhero movie in nearly 15 years. Raimi’s return to the world of Marvel will release in theaters on May 6, 2022, and the official teaser trailer kicked off the marketing campaign back in December.

Strange joins forces with Wanda/Scarlet Witch this time around, and it looks like they’ll be contending with everything from otherworldly monsters to an evil version of Strange himself.

Will Doctor Strange bust open Raimi’s Multiverse of Madness at the Super Bowl this Sunday? With the sequel coming so soon, we expect Strange will have a Super Bowl presence.

On the small screen, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is finally headed to Netflix this coming Summer, and we’re still waiting on the trailer for the new season. All we’ve gotten so far is some teaser footage from late last year, and Netflix certainly has the money for a Super Bowl spend. In fact, they’ve paid for “Stranger Things” Super Bowl ads in the past, you may recall.

Especially since it’s been so long since the previous season, Netflix may see the value in spending big time to get “Stranger Things” back on everyone’s radar this Sunday night.

Of course, we could always be in store for surprises we’re not expecting, which is the fun of the Super Bowl. We’ll be covering all of this Sunday’s horror happenings right here on BD!

Helen Mirren is former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir in this first look for Guy Nattiv’s upcoming biopic Golda, which has now started shooting in London.

Camille Cottin — star of Netflix’s French hit Call My Agent — has also joined the cast of the film, written by Nicholas Martin (Florence Foster Jenkins) and set during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, when Egypt, Syria and Jordan launched a surprise attack on Israel to reclaim territory lost during the Six-Day War in 1967. Described as a “ticking-clock thriller,” Golda charts the high-stakes responsibilities Meir faced and the controversial decision she made amid infighting among her hostile all-male cabinet.

“Golda Meir was a formidable, intransigent and powerful leader,” said Mirren. “It is a great challenge to portray her at the most difficult moment of her extraordinary life. I only hope I do her justice!”

Cottin — who recently starred alongside Matt Damon in Tom McCarthy’s Stillwater and in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci — will play Lou Kaddar, Meir’s longtime personal assistant, who stood beside her throughout the war. Meanwhile, Rami Heuberger (Schindler’s List) will portray minister of defense Moshe Dayan, with Lior Ashkenazi (Foxtrot, 7 Days in Entebbe) playing chief of staff David Elazar. The cast also includes Ellie Piercy (Black Mirror, The Dig), Ed Stoppard (Judy, Youth), Rotem Keinan, Dvir Benedek, Dominic Mafham, Ben Caplan, Kit Rakusen and Emma Davies.

“I have long been an admirer of the great Helen Mirren,” said Nattiv. “She has melted so brilliantly into Golda Meir’s character with incredible talent, intelligence, depth and emotion, doing justice to the richness and complexity of this incredible woman.”

As previously announced, Bleecker Street and ShivHans acquired U.S. rights to the film in a deal negotiated by ICM Independent and CAA Media Finance. Sales company Embankment also presold Golda to multiple international territories, including Australia and New Zealand (Transmission), Italy (Leone), Scandinavia (Scanbox), Benelux (The Searchers), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Spain, Portugal and Latin America (Sun/Diamond), the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Baltics (Exponenta), Greece (Spentzos), South Africa (Film Finity), Israel (United King), Middle East (Front Row), Hong Kong (Golden Scene), India (Lionsgate) and Taiwan (Cai Chang).

Financing is provided by Piccadilly Pictures and Maven Pictures and has been arranged by Embankment, ICM Independent and CAA Media Finance. Celine Rattray for Maven, and Ian Hutchinson, Robert Whitehouse and Christopher Figg for Piccadilly, are executive producers.

Golda is produced by Michael Kuhn (Florence Foster Jenkins, The Duchess) for Qwerty Films as well as Jane Hooks and Nicholas Martin. The film shoots for six weeks in London and on location in Israel.

The study confirms the behavioral and physical effects of commuting on work quality. The study also shows how data from personal tech devices can help improve employee productivity and satisfaction.

“Your commute predicts your day,” said Andrew Campbell, the Albert Bradley 1915 Third Century Professor of computer science at Dartmouth, the lead researcher and co-author of the study. “This research demonstrates that mobile sensing is capable of identifying how travel to and from the office affects individual workers.”

Participants in the study used a Garmin vivoSmart 3 activity tracker and a smartphone-based sensing app to capture physiological and behavioral patterns during commuting, including activity levels, phone usage, heart rate, and stress. The system also captured external factors such as location, weather, commute duration, and commute variability.

Researchers analyzed data from 275 workers collected over a one-year period prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The workers, close to 95% of whom drove, were monitored as they traveled. They were also monitored for 30-minute periods before and after commuting.

“We were able to build machine learning models to accurately predict job performance,” said Subigya Nepal a PhD student at Dartmouth and lead author of the paper. “The key was being able to objectively assess commuting stress along with the physiological reaction to the commuting experience.”

The study assessed workers using two recognized criteria of job performance: counterproductive work behavior and organizational citizenship behavior. Counterproductive behavior deliberately harms an organization, whereas citizenship behaviors are beneficial. Baselines for both measures were established regularly through self-reporting questionnaires.

“Compared to low performers, high performers display greater consistency in the time they arrive and leave work,” said Pino Audia, a professor of Management and Organizations at the Tuck School of Business, a senior scientist on the study team, and a co-author of the study. “This dramatically reduces the negative impacts of commuting variability and suggests that the secret to high performance may lie in sticking to better routines.”

Additional differences in the commuting patterns of high and low performers include:

High performers tend to have physiological indicators that are consistent with physical fitness and stress resilience.

Low performers have higher stress levels in the times before, during, and after commutes.

Low performers use their phone more during their commutes.

Overall, the research also found that workers spend more time commuting home from work than they do traveling to work.

According to the study, previous research on commuting indicates that stress, anxiety, and frustration from commuting can lead to a less efficient workforce, increased counterproductive work behavior, and reduced organizational citizenship behavior.

This is the first study using unobtrusive wearables and smartphones to predict worker performance from commuting data alone. According to the researchers, previous studies have used more intrusive and expensive technology — such as headmounts and electrodes — to understand the commuting experience, but no study has previously connected commuting data with the impact on workplace performance.

“The insights from this proof-of-concept study demonstrate that this is an important area of research for future of work,” said Campbell, co-director of Dartmouth’s DartNets Lab.

The study also demonstrates that not all commutes can be bad. By tracking commuting traits such as walking distance and steps, the research confirms that commuters who are involved in active forms of commuting typically experience increased productivity at work.

In the future, the researchers expect that ubiquitous sensing technology will be able to detect commuter stress and offer tailored interventions such as music, podcasts, connecting them to friends and family, or offering tips for short stops.

The study was accepted for publication in Future of Work: COVID-19 and Beyond, a special issue ofIEEE Pervasive Computing.

She has been swept up in a whirlwind romance like no other. The longer the story goes on though, it becomes very clear something is amiss. Beyond the honeymoon stage lies a disturbing reality about Angélique’s infatuation.

Lætitia Colombani’s 2002 film opens with its enamored protagonist sending her sweetheart a token of her affection; an early birthday present consisting of a single rose and a love note. Angélique’s sunny disposition endures as she wins an art scholarship at school, which requires her to complete a series of paintings over the summer. Good news indeed, but Angélique’s main concern right now is only making her new beau happy.

Angélique’s bliss comes with certain caveats, including the fact that her sweetheart is actually married with a baby on the way. Best friend Héloïse (Sophie Guillemin) tries to convince Angélique to move on if a child is involved, but Audrey Tautou’s character is resolute. Just as things begin to fall apart in quick succession, Angélique is convinced she can make this relationship work. Even if that means sacrificing everything — and everyone — to get what she wants.

Going into the film with no notion of things to come is ideal, but spoilers are unavoidable when approaching such a tangled story. The sinister truth trickles out as Angélique starts to spiral. As utterly heartbroken as she is, Angélique evades wallowing in favor of removing the physical obstacles in her way. A damaged scooter, a bloody elbow, a bump on the head; all these events raise suspicions about the lengths Angélique will go to to stay in love.

By changing the point of view partway through, Colombani’s film promptly goes from romantic to frightening. Now the audience sees the story from the perspective of the suitor. Or as it turns out, the victim. Dr. Loïc Le Garrec (Samuel Le Bihan) receives a single rose with an anonymous note: “My heart is forever yours.” He assumes the gift is from his wife Rachel (Isabelle Carré), but he later realizes he has a secret admirer. Loïc suspects one of his patients, namely a woman always eager to get her top off so the doctor can examine her. He fails to consider Audrey Tautou’s Angélique though, the woman staying at his neighbor’s house while they are away on vacation.

He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not is a great example of the unreliable narrator. The protagonist’s credibility comes into question as the story unfolds. The audience has no reason to doubt Angélique’s intentions from the first moment they meet her. Not a sign of villainy is in sight early on as she pursues love in every corner of her life; be it art or with Loïc. At first Colombani presents Angélique’s viewpoint with the same sort of enthusiasm and charm so prevalent in starry-eyed romance stories. She masks the uncomfortable actuality with passionate colors, affectionate music, and contagious sentimentality. By the thirty-minute mark, everything changes when a trip to Florence falls through. The catching euphoria from earlier is now replaced with dangerous obsession.

Regarding the plot turn, Colombani and co-writer Caroline Thivel do not pull the rug out from viewers so much as they make small tugs along the way. Even before shifting to Loïc’s outlook, it is increasingly clear Angélique’s adoration is unhealthy and at many times volatile. She has already confessed to one misdeed while another is all but confirmed until Loïc’s half of the story comes into view. This is when He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not unquestionably falls into erotomania territory.

Like almost anything else adapted for the screen, erotomania is exaggerated for effect. Also known as de Clérambault’s Syndrome or psychose passionnelle, erotomania is a starting point for psychosexual thrillers like Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction, and The Crush. In the grand scheme, these films do more harm than good when discussing this condition. They play up the sexual and violent elements for amusement and shock value while glossing over the psychology.

Meanwhile, He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not is generally regarded as a more accurate depiction of erotomania. Like many textbook cases, youth and sexual inexperience impel someone like Angélique toward Loïc, an older man whose class and unavailability are never seen as hindrances. In addition, Angélique’s fixation is fueled by either benign interactions or her imagination. Whatever little contact the parties do have is then misread as declarations of love.

Erotomania films often hide the patient’s pathos beneath layers of blackmail, sex, and stalking. The object of obsession is usually preyed on after a regretful tryst, then alienated through whatever means necessary. Their closest friends and family are systematically attacked, or their lives are blown up. Whereas with Angélique, she never premeditates or acts maliciously despite her committing heinous acts against Loïc’s wife and anyone else standing in her way. She tends to react in the moment under the belief that everything she is doing is for Loïc and their future together. Angélique’s behavior ultimately comes across as unnervingly authentic and not something drummed up only for the audience’s perverse pleasure.

Colombani’s film is a plausible romantic-thriller that never resists the urge to entertain. A dark and unpredictable energy flows throughout and keeps viewers fully plugged in long after the big reveal. On top of that, Audrey Tautou gets scarily lost in a role that casual fans might not have expected from her. He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not boldly dances on that fine line between creepy and sad, while also being a devilish twist on the old phrase, there are two sides to every story.
