The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Fantastic Four may be without a director, but according to a new report, that could change in a big way.
Deadline reporter Justin Kroll shared some insider information about the hunt to replace Jon Watts on Fantastic Fourclaiming Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is taking his time. “One source says don’t expect it to be filled anytime soon as they are not even close to cutting down [a] long list of candidates,” Kroll tweeted, followed by a quote from his source, reading, “I’d be shocked if a choice is made before labor day.” But while the project may be moving slower than fans had hoped, Kroll did reveal some rather interesting behind-the-scenes info about the director search.

According to Kroll, Feige and Marvel Studios are looking at some big-name directors along the lines of Sam Raimi, who recently made a splash with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With the MCU expanding into TV, Feige has been stretched thin as the creative head of the growing universe, and it seems having an experienced director like Raimi at the helm of such a big project was a blessing he hopes to recreate.
“While no names have surfaced, multiple sources say while it’s a large mix of candidates, Feige and company are taking a lot of shots at some big names,” Kroll wrote. “One source close to [the] process [said]’Kevin doesn’t want [to] oversee [the] entire shoot, and after not having to worry about that with Raimi, he is very game [for the] same outcome with this shoot.'”
Marvel Studios has worked with plenty of established directors, but the company often looks to foster young and emerging talent, especially from the world of indie films. While Raimi came from the world, he’s spent his career crafting numerous blockbuster films, including three Spider-Man movies. It seems that for the reboot of Fantastic Fourthe studio wants to ensure success with a proven hand.

Doctor Strange 2 quickly passed the half a billion mark after its release in May. A month since it debuted, the movie has already grossed $879.5 million globally. While 20th Century Fox’s first two Fantastic Four films did well at the box office, the 2015 reboot failed to perform with audiences or critics. Now that the family will finally be entering the MCU, it seems Marvel Studios isn’t taking any chances.
Of course, with a director announcement still some time away, it’s unclear when casting for Fantastic Four will be revealed. A rumor in January claimed the process was already underway, and Doctor Strange 2 introduced John Krasinski as Reed Richards. Whether he’ll return to the role for Fantastic Four is unclear, but either way, it’s unlikely the film’s stars will be announced before the studio locks in a director.
Fantastic Four does not yet have a release date.

UKTV, one of Britain’s largest commercial broadcasters, has closed a major volume deal with ZDF Enterprises and its wholly owned subsidiary, Off the Fence. The deal will see UKTV acquire 40 hours of premium factual content for two of its specialist factual channels, Eden and Yesterday.
ZDF Enterprises’ new World War II history documentary, Frontlines (8 x 50′), produced by Impossible Factual Ltd will air on Yesterdayand Off the Fence’s own production, a nature series, Wild Edens (3 x 60′, 4K) is for Eden.
Global Acquisitions Manager Charlie Charalambous brokered the deal for UKTV and commented:
The environment and sustainability is an important and topical subject matter, and one that is close to many of our viewers’ hearts. This package deal will ensure we have a wide range of high end factual programming to engage those viewers who want to connect with the World around them so I’m really pleased to have worked with ZDF Enterprises and Off the Fence to secure these brilliant shows.

As a part of its objective to promote a series of cultural and audiovisual exchanges between Brazilian and foreign students, Anim!Arte is shown in several cities around the world in partnership with other film festivals. The 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival is also bringing its delegates a taste of Anim!Arte through a special package to be screened on June 03, 2022, 11.30 am at RR-III, Films Division Complex.
The package consisting of 11 films from different countries including Brazil was curated by award-winning animation filmmaker Alexandre Juruena. Since 2001, he has curated sixteen editions of the Anim!Arte. His award-winning films include ‘Get out of the Mud’, ‘Jacaré’ and ‘Suplica Cearense’. Filmmaker and curator Tehzeeb Khurana will present the films at #MIFF2022.

1. Only a Child
The visual poem gives shape and colour to the words spoken by twelve-year-old Severn Suzuki at the United Nations’ Rio Summit in 1992, using meaningful images and powerful animated allegories. This film from Switzerland is directed by Simone Giampaolo.
2. When Everything is Born
This film from Brazil directed by Pamela Peregrino tells the story of Orixá of the sweet waters, the goddess of fertility that nourishes the earth and makes everything grow.
3. Castaway
A lonely girl lives in the sky, far from the world below that frightens her. One day, an impromptu visit disrupts her habits and knocks her off her cloud. This film from France is directed by Rachel Bosc-Bierne, Vincent Carrette, Simon Fabbri, Marie Gauthier, Margo Lopez, Léopoldine Perdrix and Flore-Anne Victor.
4.Meow or Never
In this madcap musical, a catstronaut travels the galaxy looking for the meaning of life when she encounters an eager-to-help space pup who only gets them into trouble at every turn. This Indian film is directed by Neeraja Raj.
5. Piou
This 3D film tells the story of a little boy who is surprised by a new friend; the surprise guest decides to create obstacles in his way. This Brazilian film is directed by Gabryel Souza.
6. The March of the Missing
A city of iron hosts a lavish government parade, bringing joy and gifts to the calm life of its citizens. Two outside observers -the first through a tall window and the second through the lens of a camera- are the only ones to notice a group of protesters blocking the path of the main vehicle to call attention to an unjust tragedy. This film from Mexico is directed by Marcos Almada Rivero.
7. Winner
At a time of war, the film presents an art attack made with love. This film from Slovakia is directed by Samuel Chovan.
8. Oríki
The film presents a poem about death, illness and healing through the cosmovision of the indigenous peoples of Terreiro. In the film, Iku (death) circulates all over the world. The Orisàs unite to bring healing to humanity. This film from Brazil is directed by Pâmela Peregrino.
9.The Tree Has Been Planted
Planting a tree has a simple and direct objective. One can enjoy its shadow and perfume and the songs of the birds sheltered in its branches. An authoritarian regime will not tolerate what is done without consent, not even in the case of beautiful and productive acts, to hold onto power beyond all reason. Irene Blei directed this film from Argentina.
10. Time
This film tells the story of a little girl who doesn’t like change but has to deal with it anyway; she faces her fears and discovers new possibilities. Isabella Pannain directed this film from Brazil.
11. Kaval
This film from Macedonia directed by Sasha Stanishik is about a boy who meets the kaval and the magic of its sound at his grandparents’ house on a fine summer.

Since 2001, he has curated sixteen editions of the Anim!Arte. His award-winning films include ‘Get out of the Mud’, ‘Jacaré’ and ‘Suplica Cearense’. Filmmaker and curator Tehzeeb Khurana will present the films at #MIFF2022.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (April 22, 2022) – IFC Films and AMC+ announced today that they’re acquiring North American rights to the SXSW all-star comedy SPIN ME ROUND, directed by Jeff Baena (The Little Hours), co-written with lead Alison Brie, who also produced alongside Baena, Duplass Brothers Productions and Limelight. IFC Films will release the film in theaters, on VOD and stream exclusively on AMC+ in Summer 2022.
SPIN ME ROUND marks the third IFC Films feature with Brie, who most recently starred in The Rentalthe Dave Franco-directed thriller that was a hit at drive-ins nationwide and on VOD during the summer of 2020.
Rounding out the cast is Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark), Aubrey Plaza (the forthcoming Emily The Criminal), Molly Shannon (The Other Two), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), Ayden Mayeri (The Afterparty), Ben Sinclair (High Maintenance), Tim Heidecker (On Cinema at the Cinema), Debby Ryan (Insatiable), Fred Armisen (Portlandia).
Baena and Brie previously collaborated on Horse Girl together, which Brie starred in and co-wrote with Baena, who directed. Brie also appeared in Baena’s The Little Hours and Joshy.
In SPIN ME ROUND, Brie stars as the manager of an Italian restaurant chain who wins the opportunity to attend the franchise’s educational immersion program in Italy. What she thought would be a romantic getaway devolves into chaos and catastrophe.

PREVIOUSLY, MAY 10: A24 has partnered with the non-profit Made in Her Image to launch Beyond the Screen, a new program in support of women and non-binary POC filmmakers.
Made in Her Image will pull back the curtain on the business of filmmaking for young people whose advancement and achievement in the film industry has been historically hindered by systemic racial and gender inequality. 30 women and non-binary people of color, ages 18-25, will be chosen to participate in the three-week workshop series, which kicks off in June.
Over three sessions on the business of production, post-production, and distribution, participants interested in a career in film and television will learn how a studio functions and leave with a better understanding of how to navigate their own projects and careers. Creatives participating in Beyond the Screen Q&As as part of the first edition of the program include Burning Cane director Phillip Youmans, Insecure producer Deniese Davis, and Netflix post-production executive Nancy Valle. Applications from those looking to be part of the first cohort must be submitted by May 15.
“In the wake of the racial justice uprisings of 2020, we saw an outpouring of equity and diversity commitments from Hollywood,” said Made in Her Image’s founder and CEO, Malakai. “Our goal with Beyond the Screen is to inspire young women and nonbinary people of color to see themselves as tomorrow’s producers and distributors, while also modelling for other studios, networks, and production companies the praxis of creating meaningful pipelines for underrepresented communities.”
Since launching in 2018, Made in Her Image has also partnered with Panavision, Sundance, CAA, Ford and Creative Solutions Los Angeles for workshops and incubators in directing, screenwriting and cinematography. Moreno had also pondered renovating the current Angel Stadium — the fourth oldest stadium in Major League Baseball, opened in 1966 — or building a brand new one.
But all those plans are on hold or dead.
With former Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu embroiled in an FBI corruption probe relating to the stadium deal, city officials and a representative for Moreno agreed to nix the $320 million tentative sales deal.
The question on many people’s minds is, what will Moreno do now with the Los Angeles Angels baseball team?
Here are a few options:
Remain in Anaheim on a long-term lease
Moreno has time to figure it out, for now. The team’s lease with the city runs through 2029, with three three-year extensions through 2038, unless the City Council plans to void the lease agreement, which was struck by Sidhu (but that’s a separate story) in 2019.
Moreno has a favorable rent situationmostly based on the share of ticket sales above a certain threshold and revenue sharing. The city, which contributes $700,000 for the basic upkeep of the stadium, barely breaks even.
The team does not have an opt-out clause before the end of the current lease, said Anaheim spokesperson Mike Lyster to Spectrum News.
“Any future discussions about the lease would be a matter for our City Council,” he said.
If he stays, one sticking point remains: The aging stadium requires more than $150 million to $200 million in basic infrastructure improvements, such as plumbing and concrete work. However, the city and Moreno have squabbled about who is responsible for paying for it.
Renew talks with Anaheim to buy the stadium and land
Moreno could wait until public furor calms down and renew talks of a new stadium deal with possibly new city council members and mayor.
Four seats are up for grabs in the council in the November elections, including the vacant mayor seat.
But there’s no guarantee that a new city council will give him something similar to the previous deal he struck in 2019. With more public scrutiny and pressure on the council members to strike a fair deal for the city, Moreno could have to dish out more for the 150-acre Angel Stadium and surrounding parking lots.
Still, the reward would be great if Moreno were to strike another deal.
Large pieces of land are scarce in Southern California, especially in urban and tourism-rich Anaheim. Securing and building a new Angel Stadium, and developing the surrounding area, could boost his — and his family’s — pocketbook for generations.

Long Beach has a 55-acre plot next to the coastline and Long Beach Arena, where Moreno could build a new 13-acre waterfront baseball stadium and smaller mixed-use retail and business district surrounding it.
The land is three times smaller than the one in Anaheim, and parking and public transit might be a mess, but Long Beach city officials are willing to work with Moreno and his team to develop the area.
Just a few hours after Anaheim voted to void the approved deal with Moreno, Long Beach was ready to woo the team again.
“If the Angels are interested in continuing those initial discussions, Long Beach would reengage in those discussions and seek direction from the City Council,” the Long Beach city manager said in a statement, according to the LA Times.
Angels could move elsewhere
During the mid-2010s, when Anaheim’s City Council played hardball with the Angels, Moreno and his team searched for other possible locations to move the team.
One of those locations was at the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin.
Moreno could also wait for another city desperate for a Major League Baseball franchise in SoCal or beyond. Las Vegas has been heavily courting the Oakland Athletics as the latter tries to negotiate with Oakland city leaders for a new ballpark.
