On top of that, the movie has a surprising amount of heart, leaving a lot more of an impact than you’d expect from a meta slasher movie. While not all that scary, The Final Girls is the perfect movie for laid back spooky viewing.

Trick ‘r Treat is a surprisingly good Halloween-themed horror movie. The film follows 5 seemingly unconnected stories, each of which can be equal parts funny, suspenseful, and terrifying. From a middle school principal with a night job as a serial killer to a haunting little trick or treater, you never really know where the story is going to go. All of these subplots are balanced masterfully with all of them coming together for a film where the whole is a lot scarier than the sum of its parts.

It was tasked not only with being a satisfying sequel but also with teasing future spinoff films, such as the pending Annabelle sequel and The Nun. Luckily, and somewhat miraculously, The Conjuring 2 successfully juggles all of these things, coming away as both an excellent standalone horror movie, as well arguably the best Conjuring film. In a largely self-contained plot, we see supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren heading to London to help a family haunted by a spirit. The film’s atmosphere is genuinely creepy and there are a few scares that are likely to get even experience horror viewers. This movie is perfect if you aren’t planning on sleeping for the next few nights.

Jaws is best enjoyed as close as you can get to it’s blockbuster origins: with some friends, popcorn, and the biggest TV you can find.

Aside from being independently entertaining, with an excellent cast, it lays out the blueprint for every slasher film in a way that feels natural and earned. The film manages to be creepy as well as consistently funny. The last act, in particular, is something really special with something new and exciting in almost every frame. The Cabin in the Woods is the perfect movie to put on if you find yourself with a little extra time this weekend. However, I’d recommend going into the movie knowing as little as possible, as it makes the viewing experience a lot more exciting.

In the ad, the couple is initially in awe of Alexa’s functionalities, but then imagines a world where Alexa reads their thoughts on a daily basis.
The 60-second ad launches Monday and will televised during Super Bowl 56 on Feb. 13.
The commercial attempts to take a comical approach on the situation, which Jost believes every couple would “relate to on some level.”
“They exaggerated the situation that I think are grounded in reality of couples in general,” said Jost,
But if what the commercial depicts would actually happen in real life, Johansson said in a recent interview that it would be “absolutely terrifying” and they would try to “live off the grid.”
Jost said he would take a different approach by confusing the device with his “many thoughts at once.” But then Johansson jokingly responded to her husband that “you already have many thoughts at once.”
The “Black Widow” actor and “Saturday Night Live” star — who married in 2020 — called their first time working together since they united on the late-night sketch series an enjoyable experience. Jost had written a sketch more than a decade ago featuring Johansson who was a guest host on the show on several occasions.
Johansson called filming the commercial fun, but hopes the millions of Super Bowl viewers enjoys their ad as much as them.

Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark recently detailed a number of new cast members and it seems like the production wasn’t quite finished adding stars. Deadline has exclusively revealed the addition of a trio of cast members who have just signed on to the project, which is being produced by CBS Films.
Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption), and Lorraine Toussaint (Selma, Orange is the New Black) have all joined the cast to help bring Alvin Schwartz’s children’s horror book series to life. Production on the movie is currently underway.
According to the film’s official synopsis, this adaptation will follow “a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town.” The previously-announced cast members include Zoe Colletti (Annie), Michael Garza (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1), Austin Abrams (Paper Towns), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make It Pop).
André Øvredal will direct the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie, which is based on a script by Guillermo Del Toro along with Daniel Hageman, Kevin Hageman, Patrick Melton, and Marcus Dunstan. The film is slated to be released sometime in 2019.

Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark recently detailed a number of new cast members and it seems like the production wasn’t quite finished adding stars. Did you have to prepare physically for the movie?
Not specifically. I was filming a show called Survivor’s Remorse in the time leading up to it, and was training for that, so I just kept to the same workout regime. The only feedback from Roland [Emmerich – director] was that he wanted me to work out less, because he thought, as a fighter pilot, I’d have less time to go to the gym if I was spending most of my time saving the world. There were some pretty demanding scenes, though, where we were shooting in waist-deep water or climbing things, jumping over stuff, running and diving. Luckily I was in decent enough shape to hold up for the hours we were filming.
How would you rate your fitness on a scale of one to 10?
I’m a strong eight. There’s always room for improvement, but at this point my stamina’s pretty high and I’m stronger than I look – I’m skinny but at the same time I feel I can lift more weight than all my friends…
What do you do, fitness-wise?
All kinds of stuff – I try to change it up so I don’t get bored. I go to the gym just about every day to do some resistance training, and I work every muscle group I can. I also practise martial arts. I do American Kenpo karate these days, but I’ve been doing different styles my whole life, so it would be interesting to put it on film at some point and see how that turns out. I think it would be pretty good. I play basketball, too, and sometimes I go to the beach and swim. I try to stay active – that’s the most important thing.
What will you never do again?
When I was training for Survivor’s Remorse, I had to do hundreds of hack squats – I just started to hate them because I did them so often. I’d be like “Can’t we do another type of squat?” If I had my way I’d never do another one in my life.
How is your fitness fingerprint unique to you and your career?
Being fit has put me in the position where I can play the roles I’ve played, so it bears a level of importance for that. I’m fortunate in that it never feels as if I’m dragging myself to the gym because I have to do it. It’s just a part of my lifestyle, and it’s been working out well for me so far. There’s a pretty close relationship between my level of fitness and the opportunities that have come about in my career.

The original Independence Day is a classic of mid-’90s mindless blockbuster filmmaking, with enough explosions, spaceships, computer viruses and escaping dogs to gratify even the most jaded action movie fan. It’s been a whole 20 years since that movie, and according to Hollywood, that’s a good enough reason to grant us a sequel. This time around, we’re minus Will Smith, but we’ve still got a load of the old cast rejoining the party, like Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner. Fighting alongside them are new additions Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe, and it’s all under the direction of original helmer Roland “We Need More Explosions” Emmerich.
The sequel offers much of the same, with the naughty extraterrestrials coming back to earth to shoot things with bigger and better laser guns. Since the first invasion, the plucky humans have taken on some of the aliens’ technology so, in theory, should be a bit more prepared than last time (although according to the trailer, it seems the invaders are still quite adept at blowing up all our stuff). It remains to be seen if this will match the quality of the 1996 movie, but as long as there aren’t any scenes where Jeff Goldblum guesses the spaceship’s WiFi password and uses up all their bandwidth so they’re cut off by their provider, we should be all right.

The sequel offers much of the same, with the naughty extraterrestrials coming back to earth to shoot things with bigger and better laser guns. Since the first invasion, the plucky humans have taken on some of the aliens’ technology so, in theory, should be a bit more prepared than last time (although according to the trailer, it seems the invaders are still quite adept at blowing up all our stuff). It remains to be seen if this will match the quality of the 1996 movie, but as long as there aren’t any scenes where Jeff Goldblum guesses the spaceship’s WiFi password and uses up all their bandwidth so they’re cut off by their provider, we should be all right.

It’s going on 10 years (!) since the world was first introduced to Tucker, Dale, and their hillbilly ways. And yet, budding horror enthusiasts have been left wanting for a sequel ever since.
There is, however, still light at the end of the long, meandering tunnel, as the film’s star, Tyler Labine recently told Broke Horror Fan (h/t ComicBook.com) that there’s a plan in place for Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil 2. It’s not a sequel, per se, but more of a follow-up set in the same universe.
Indeed, from the following comment, we can assume that Tucker and Dale may well expand onto television in the not-so-distant future, as Labine and co-star Alan Tudyk look to keep the cult horror movie alive more than nine years after its initial release.

It’s going on 10 years (!) since the world was first introduced to Tucker, Dale, and their hillbilly ways. And yet, budding horror enthusiasts have been left wanting for a sequel ever since.
There is, however, still light at the end of the long, meandering tunnel, as the film’s star, Tyler Labine recently told Broke Horror Fan (h/t ComicBook.com) that there’s a plan in place for Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil 2. It’s not a sequel, per se, but more of a follow-up set in the same universe.
Indeed, from the following comment, we can assume that Tucker and Dale may well expand onto television in the not-so-distant future, as Labine and co-star Alan Tudyk look to keep the cult horror movie alive more than nine years after its initial release.

When Wynonna Earp’s fourth season premieres this Sunday night (July 26) on Bell Sci-Fi, it marks the end of a nearly two-year hiatus for the scrappy little supernatural Western. The series, which stars Melanie Scrofano as its hard-drinking, monster-hunting hero, survived a year in limbo due to financing snarls.
Season 4 went into production in Calgary last fall, only to have to shut down in March when COVID rolled across Canada.
Alberta has since reopened, so production of the back half was able to resume last week … which meant Scrofano, showrunner Emily Andras and a few other key cast and production personnel had to travel from Toronto to Calgary, and land in a place where things seem a lot more normal.
In today’s episode of the NOW What podcast, I talk to Scrofano about the ensuing culture shock, and the challenges of socially distanced Earping. You can listen to the entire conversation at the link below. (And you should!)
“We’ve had our COVID orientation,” Scrofano says. “We have a risk management company taking care of us and making sure that we’re safe. [But] even just going from province to province has been bizarre … the shift in mentality from Ontario, where you have to wear a mask indoors, and then you come here and you don’t have to wear a mask. People still do, but it’s just looser. So that shift was weird. And it makes me wonder what the shift to shooting will be like, because we have all these norms that we do without thinking. And how is that going to translate to the work?”
For starters, production is going to be a little different.
“Essentially we have zones,” she says. “People are in bubbles. So people in Zone A won’t interact with people from Zone B, et cetera. And no handoffs: we’re going digital [for scripts]. But even just, like, where am I going to put my coffee? I can’t just sip coffee and put it down anywhere because that’s gross now,” she laughs. “So I’m going to have to edit my coffee situation, things like that. I don’t know how we’re going to do it, but we’ll figure it out.”
And once that’s all dealt with, Scrofano and her co-stars will have to renegotiate the entire concept of performance.
“Like, for example, how comfortable is another actor with me getting close?” she continues. “‘Can I touch you?’ You know things that I would have never had to think about before – unless it was an intimacy scene – I now have to really go, ‘Okay, what is your comfort [zone]? What’s your tolerance level?’ It’s going to be a real interesting shift.”
But it’s all worth it if it lets everybody finish the show. And nobody’s going partying at the end of the day.
“I don’t think that any of us are really in the mood,” Scrofano says. “I don’t want to go to a restaurant. I’ll order [in], but I don’t want to go out. And I think we all feel that way. We’re all very cautious; we almost lost our baby already, we’re not going to put it in danger. All these people that work with us in the crew, they deserve to have this job [laughter] and we shouldn’t be taking it away from them with our stupid behavior.”
