The child king decides the weekend schedule, his parents who no longer dare to say “no” to him for fear that he will fly into a rage, friends who have not found a way to see each other since they became parents… We are a long way from the time when the children came after parents!

Some even say that the “king child” flourishes in our cottages…

Why this new trend for one or even two generations?

Some will say that it is because of this new “positive education“, and that by wanting to consider the child too much, he ends up taking over. But this is then to confuse “positive” education with “permissive” education…

The child king does not have parents connected to positive education, but rather parents who do not have the strength (or the desire) to fight, nor to manage conflicts with patience.

And that is understandable! Working mothers don’t want the 2 hours they spend in the evening with their children to turn into a daily hassle. Dads, now much more involved in the education of their children, do not want to take on the role of the authoritarian father who rages and punishes (and they are quite right!). These dads also want to enjoy their children, and make sure that the time spent together does not turn into a pitched battle.

Added to this are the separated parents who only spend one weekend out of two with their offspring, and who do not wish to “waste” this shared time by upsetting their children. Just like parents who feel guilty for not being present enough and who want to make every moment spent together a “good” moment.

Finally, the importance given to children may be accentuated by the new difficulties that many parents encounter in having a baby. This first child (or the only one) is all the more pampered, as it has been expected, perhaps even unexpected.

In short, we are a long way from the generation of our grandparents, where we took care of the children because they were there, their status as children giving them practically no rights over the world of adults! “In my time, the children did not have the floor at the table! as your parents or grandparents may tell you…

For all these reasons (and many more), parents today are pressured to give in more to the wishes of their children.

We will also see in a future article how to say no to your child while avoiding triggering anger. In the meantime, even if we have every reason to put the wishes of our little ones before our own, one thing is certain:

Our well-being is as important as theirs!

First of all because all beings are equal, and if the time when parents were overpowering is now over, it is not a question of the roles being reversed either!

Then because it will be difficult for a child to flourish in contact with parents who are tired, stressed, under pressure. It is our good humor that will allow us to manage our children with patience and humor. Tired or stressed, we are much more likely to get upset… (But don’t worry, even if we are upset, there are solutions to stay caring :-), see the article: Caring parents, you have the right to be angry, but not just anyhow…)

Feeling good about yourself as a parent also means feeling good about yourself as a couple. We all know the sad statistics of 2 out of 3 couples who end up divorced (at least in Paris). The family is made up of the parent-child relationship, but also of the relationship between the parents. Even if it’s not always obvious, our children shouldn’t make us forget that… At the risk, moreover, of only seeing their parents part-time.

Finally, considering that our well-being is as important as that of our child is also the best way to make him understand that he is not the center of the Earth, and to prevent him from becoming a child. King. Because even if we love him very much, we cannot give him everything, our well-being is equal.

The freedom of children ends where that of adults begins

“You can’t go to that dance class because it’s Saturday morning at 9am, and it’s too much of a hassle for us to take you there, I’m sorry.” But in two years when you are old enough to go alone, you will be able to”.

“I know you want to have dinner with the grown-ups, but tonight we want to meet up with adults. Tomorrow, if you want, we will all have lunch together”.

“I understand that you don’t feel like sleeping, but we want to have a quiet dinner with Dad so you stay in your room.” You can play if you’re not sleepy, but you don’t disturb us”.

How to make our child respect the limits while being benevolent? The site is full of articles on the subject, such as:

– “You stop playing with that”… “What did I tell you?! » How to be effective and benevolent?

– How to reason with a child in full ‘whim’?

– When the energy of our children tires us …

Conclusion on the child king

So yes, when we work, we can quickly feel guilty for not spending enough time with our children, but that’s no reason to accept all their wishes to the detriment of ours. We risk teaching them that their desires come before those of others. This does not mean either that, conversely, they must be refused everything. The goal is to find compromises that make him happy and make us happy. It’s all about measuring between his need and ours 🙂

“It’s a disaster, really…” On this April morning, in Blois in the Loir-et-Cher, rain lashed the distressed face of Sylvie Delahodde, head of the condominium trustee of this commercial area, as there are thousands in France. Inaugurated in 2017, the site has found its place between an automotive injector factory and a carpenter’s warehouse.

Its main building, made of sheet metal and concrete, housed a discount hypermarket for two years before giving way to a weight room, a franchised bakery, a household appliance store and a pet store. Next door, Courtepaille and KFC. In the center, a large paved parking lot with sixty-six diseased or dead shrubs.

Eight months earlier, at the same locations, there were sixty-six tall, vigorous trees, leafy enough to shade cars or protect Uber Eats delivery people from bad weather. “The area is not the most aesthetic, but with all these trees, it looked great”, assures Christophe Degruelle, president of the urban community of Blois.

Chainsaw Massacre

Except that one afternoon in September 2021, without warning, all these trees were cut down. Cropped flush. It took less than three hours for a cohort of workers to overcome it. Onlookers and shop employees attended, terrified, the disastrous spectacle. “Between two cuts, a guy just assured us that it was to see the signs better from the road”, remembers a saleswoman. Felling of trees to make room for shops: more and more inhabitants of more or less large cities are sorry for this anti-ecological arbitration.

A handful of photos of the ransacking of the Blois site then emerged on Facebook and then Twitter. An article appears in The New Republic. The local radio Sweet FM relays the popular amazement. In an open letter addressed to the owner of the commercial area, Christophe Degruelle and the mayor of Blois, Marc Gricourt (PS), denounce “an unacceptable ecological massacre and practices that run counter to all the policies carried out in favor of the environment, biodiversity and the fight against global warming”. They require the new operator in the area, who has just bought this set, to replant everything identically, “in accordance with the building permit”.

A bluff, because the city councilors are well aware of their inability to act on private land. “According to our legal services, we were there in a situation of lawlessness since the owner did not need authorization to cut the trees, explains Christophe Degruelle. However, these trees were included in the building permit filed and accepted at the town hall. »

Overcome deception syndrome

The desire is quickly imposed to dedicate a film to these young activists who stand up against the patriarchy. A film that assumes itself as feminist, militant and committed, giving no voice to any man. A cinema film and not a doc for TV, so that it “stay more in time”. This film, they conceive it as that of a woman and a man, her companion, Simon Depardon, 31 years old. It even engages the whole family since it owes a lot to the determination of their producer, Claudine Nougaret, who for twenty-five years has shared the life of photographer and documentary filmmaker Raymond Depardon, Simon’s father.

To carry out this project, the young couple had to overcome their own doubts. “The Deception Syndrome”for Marie Perennes, whose Feminist response is the first try behind the camera. As for Simon Depardon, he must accept the inevitable comparison with Raymond, this master of the cinema of the real who documented everything, France of course, from every angle, the Indians of Peru, Biafra or even Soweto… From the father, the young Simon inherited the faded blue eye, the passion for reality, the obsession with the right tone: to film at the level of a man or rather in this case a woman. Set up the tripod at night while the splicers are busy, so as not to “not to add emotion to the anguish”. Keep the camera on your shoulder for crowd movements and demonstrations, to better capture the insurrectionary momentum.

In the wake of a path already started in the pre-pandemic era, the Paduan company has in fact on the one hand adopted an international sustainability certification rating for its own structures and on the other hand, as anticipated in the latest issue of Travel Quotidiano, it has closed an agreement with Dolomiti Energia to guarantee all its energy supplies coming exclusively from renewable sources.

Il Si Rating – Sustainability impact rating – it is specifically an index created by Arban innovative start-up based in Trento and joint-stock benefit company from 2021, based on internationally recognized instruments, such as Sasb Materiality Map (Sustainability accounting standards board), ISO certifications related to sustainability issues, industry best practices and European directives and regulations. At the same time it is also a strategic tool for analyzing, managing and communicating sustainability. With Si Rating, Th Resorts therefore obtained a rating of 70 out of 100 on the ESG criteria (Environmental, social, governance; level achieved Bronze). Not only that: the company has also just released its own first sustainability reportdeveloped on the basis of the international standards GRI, Global reporting initiative.

“Sustainability – says the President of Th Resorts, Graziano Debellini – is one of the values that has always been part of our DNA. Today it has become a central theme and qualifies the company for its seriousness, vision and commitment perspective. It is a strategic issue for all our stakeholders and increasingly important in guiding travelers’ choices. For this reason we have embarked on a path supported by Arb, which is based on analyzes, measurements, reports and on a training program aimed at all the staff of our company “.

With this in mind, the company has therefore decided over the years to direct its energy choices towards realities that supply green energy. A ten-year agreement was therefore signed in recent days with Dolomiti Energia, a historic partner, which will guarantee a totally green energy supply. “Globally, the tourism sector contributes 8% of emissions – concludes Debellini – We are proud to be the only company to have a totally green energy supply. This action turned out to be even more strategic because it not only significantly contributes to the transition towards an economic model no longer based on fossil fuels, but it protects the company from price increases and fluctuations”.

According to historical accounts and archaeological digs, the way the Romans fed themselves in ancient times was actually much more prosaic. Like us, ordinary mortals generally eat three meals a day: breakfast at sunrise, the lunch around noon, and cena, dinner, which gave rise – among the wealthiest – to banquets consisting of hot dishes.

“In the last three to four weeks we have been above the sales volumes of three to four years ago“. Thus begins the chief product officer tour operating of the Alpitour group, Franco Campazzo, speaking of the latest booking trends: “Since the skies reopened, sales have been steadily increasing.” And the trend is essentially global: “Egypt is going strong on all three of its main beach destinations, Sharm, Marsa Alam and Marsa Matrouh, but Nile cruises are also doing well. There Greece and the Spain, on the other hand, they had fallen asleep a little, but now we find it hard to keep up with them. In Africa there is the case Madagascar: when we reopened we were afraid of hurting ourselves. But now we are chasing the air seats, so much so that from the end of July we already have plans for rdouble the Neos capacity with two rotations per week“.

Across the ocean, the Caribbean is serving the traditional low season. Here too, however, there are positive surprises, above all Cuba: “After the two years of the pandemic, we feared for the quality of the facilities. Again, we therefore took our fair share of risks – adds Campazzo -. But I personally went to Fit in Varadero and I was able to touch the services of the local resorts, which have done a great job of renewing the product “. And if on the other side of the world, the East still has some precluded goals such as China, or difficult to approach such as Japan, remain the Maldives that “are going as if there is no tomorrow”. In short, after Italy and the return of the medium range, only the long haul was missing: “Now all the pieces of the puzzle are (almost) in place“, Observes Campazzo.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. Furthermore, the Alpitour group is in the middle of the implementation phase of the reorganization process Trevolution: “The seamless pillar – Campazzo always reveals – is the one that moved a little later than the others, but today the Eden Viaggi brand is once again the second in the group for the number of passengers. The brand that is currently giving us more satisfaction is probably Bravo which, also thanks to the acquisition of the former Eden Villages, can now count on a portfolio of 35 villages. An offer dimension that drags sales and gives security to agencies, especially in this restart phase. In general, it seems to me that we have done a good job of differentiating the line between Bravo, SeaClub Francorosso and Alpiclub ”. Maybe something is still missing from the Ciao Clubs, Campazzo says: “It is a hybrid product, which needs a more precise location. But we are in the first year of a complicated process and it takes time. Previous models also tended to make the mass-market product progressively more elitist. We would like to reverse the trend and reconstruct an offer suitable for all budgets and all guests “.
