While it may be subjective as to which supporting characters and villains yet to be cast for The Batman excite fans most, I think we can all agree that none of us can wait to find out who’s playing each and every one of them. Though some of you are understandably on pins and needles anticipating the reveal of the Penguin or Riddler, I’m looking forward to meeting our next Catwoman, as she’s one of my favorite fictional characters overall.
As you may have heard or read, a woman of color is supposedly being sought out for the role of Selina Kyle in Matt Reeves’ upcoming blockbuster. Well, a shortlist by way of The GWW dropped online and – you guessed it – each and every actress comprising it is black. Based on that, it’s probably safe to say a lot of the chatter going around is legit.
Per the outlet’s report, here are the talented ladies being talked about: Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), and Logan Browning (Dear White People). Superstar singer Rihanna, meanwhile, was not spoken of, though I thought it best to make mention of her since she’s also said to be in the mix.
If anything, one could say Thompson, Shipp and Nyong’o could be considered favorites because of their previous experience in the superhero genre. But if I’d have to pick one right now, I guess I’d go with Tessa Thompson because she just has that Selina Kyle look to her more than the rest, at least in my view (see her paying tribute to Eartha Kitt’s Catwoman above). Then again, it all comes down to who gives the best audition.
Right now, I’m expecting to hear the chorus of voices saying “Catwoman can’t be black,” but it’s important to remember this icon exists in a grey area when it comes to ethnicity. Even when the weather is hot, there’s nothing like a good scare to give you literal chills. It doesn’t need to be Spooky Szn TM, I’ve become convinced that scary-movie villains are hiding around every corner waiting to jump out and kill me. I have Halloween on the brain constantly; it pretty much seeps into every nook and cranny of my psyche. I’m never not sourcing inspo for my costume, TBH. Sometimes you just need a classic horror flick.
As we all know, a scary movie lives or dies (but mostly dies a horrible death) by its villain. I don’t know about you, but watching a deranged serial killer run, walk, slink, or crawl across my screen sounds like the perfect way to get end a tough week. Here are the scariest horror movie villains to terrorize the big screen/serve as your Halloween costume vision board and/or sleep paralysis demons.
1. Dean, Missy, and Jeremy Armitage, Get Out
Get Out
The entire Armitage family in Get Out is terrifying and freaking psychotic. They possess the kind of passive, manipulative creepiness that absolutely fucks with your head and sends shivers through your whole body. That and the fact that they embody the insidious racism our country was built on.
2. Steve, Fresh

It’s only my biggest fear that I’ll hit it off with some guy only to end up chained up in his basement (and not in a fun and/or consensual way). This movie just gets wilder, scarier, and more twisted as it goes on! Sebastian Stan is so much of a charming everyman that it makes his villainous turn that much more likely to haunt you for weeks.

5. Frank-N-Furter, The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Tim Curry is so campy, sexy, and entertaining in the cult musical that you forget he’s actually pretty friggin’ evil, tries to kill almost all of the characters, and is ultimately defeated at the end of the movie. Just because this twist on the “car broke down outside a spooky mansion” trope includes a dance-off doesn’t make the stakes any lower.
6. Lucille Sharpe, Crimson Peak

Spoiler alert: though he’s played many villains in his career, Tom Hiddleston is not the villain Crimson Peak. It’s his character’s sister and her creepy incest vibes that you need to watch out for in Guillermo Del Toro’s film.
7. Godzilla and/or King Kong

They’re such classic horror movies that we even love to see them fight each other!
8. Jennifer, Jennifer’s Body

This underrated film is fuh-in-ah-lly getting the praise and recognition that it deserves. It’s such a good campy horror movie. Megan Fox is incredible as the villain. It’s funny and feminist and so freaking good. If you’re a f*ckboy, you should be scared of her.
9. Men, Men

Okay, so there are actually a few specific and terrifying characters in the A24 film who would technically be classified as “the villain” in a more traditional sense. One of them is based on “The Green Man” from folklore, which also popped up in a recent-ish season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. But it’s just men, right? It’s always just men.
10. The Facility, Cabin in the Woods

Monsters and jump scares are a dime a dozen in this spooky comedy, and any one of them is likely to shake you to your very core. The film’s “big bad” is an organization of corporate types who gleefully sacrifice young people and bet on which gore-filled horror will get them first. Somehow these heartless dweebs are the scariest of all. (That said, special shoutout to the Merman, always.)
11. Vivian Tyrell, Vampires vs. The Bronx

Well…*pushes glasses up nose* the real villain is gentrification, but who better to represent that than the white girl who is new to the neighborhood and just so happens to be a bloodthirsty vampire? It’s not as subtle as Get Out, but since when has horror ever aimed for subtly?
12. Mama, Mama

A possessed, demonic, and spidery creature, this controlling mother is none too pleased when her two young daughters are adopted—even though she abandoned them in the woods for, um, five years. So she does what any mother would do: she terrorizes and tortures everyone, including her! own! children!
13. Carrie White, Carrie

You could argue that Carrie White is actually the victim in this story. But just because her murdering rampage is kinda warranted doesn’t mean it’s not also horrifying as hell.
14. The Thing, The Thing
Machine Mean
No one knows exactly what the Thing is in John Carpenter’s 1982 classic sci-fi horror film. Because there’s really no better name for a slimy conglomeration of limbs and hands and teeth than the Thing.
15. Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Not gonna lie, any time a movie shows someone getting shaved by a straight razor my blood turns to ice. It’s 100 percent because of this musical.
16. The Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Now, do I love that Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel hero made such a dramatic villainous turn after seemingly getting closure in WandaVision? Not really! But that’s where we’re at, and I was delightfully spooked by all of the gruesome ways she magically murdered people in the movie.
17. Seth Brundle, The Fly
Bloody Disgusting
Seth Brundle was just your typical crazy mad scientist trying to impress a girl with a supposed breakthrough invention. Until the experiment took a very different course…one that involves Brundle slowly morphing into a human-sized fly creature that’s just as gross as it sounds.
18. Henry, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Michael Rooker’s harrowing performance as serial killer Henry Lee Lucas is deeply, deeply disturbing. You know this is based on a true story of a real-life murderer, right? Do not, I repeat, do *not* watch this alone at night.
19. Anna Ivers, The Uninvited

I don’t want to give away too much butttttt the movie revolves around Anna, who has been in a psych ward for nearly a year following the death of her terminally ill mother. In this psychological thriller, it’s unclear what’s real and what’s a hallucination until the very, very end—at which point, one last twist awaits you.
20. Brahms, The Boy

Why do we let little kids play with dolls and pretend like they aren’t the scariest things ever?!?!? Brahms is a creepy, life-like doll who terrorizes anyone who comes in contact with him. Thanks Hollywood, but I don’t need another reason to harbor ridiculous paranoia about dolls!
21. Esther, Orphan

Listen, obviously little kids can be super cute and adorable, but they can also be freaking CREEPY. Exhibit A: Esther, from Orphan. Esther epitomizes Evil Child Syndrome, which is a real thing, apparently.
22. Lestat, Interview With The Vampire

Of course, Lestat is only really the villain from Louis’ POV. But just because we fantasize about being on his good side doesn’t mean we wouldn’t want to be on his bad side. Antiheroes can be friggin’ terrifying too.
23. Griffin, The Invisible Man

This 2020 retelling of H. G. Wells’s classic novel of the same name modernizes the evil Dr. Griffin by making him a super-possessive ex-boyfriend/inventor who fakes his own death and makes a techy suit that turns him invisible so he can terrorize his ex-girlfriend Cecilia. His hobbies include sneaking into Cecilia’s room and pulling off the bed covers while she’s sleeping and tackling her from behind, ya know, just stuff that makes everyone around Cecilia question her sanity.
24. The Shark, Jaws

This circa 1970 shark might look kind of fake, sure. But if you’ve ever been afraid of the deep blue sea, this massive great white villain—with his rows of razor-sharp teeth, hankering for human flesh, and a not an ounce of remorse—will only confirm your fears. You’ll definitely want to say “no thanks” to any cruise or boat trip opportunities forever.

Fact: Ghostface is terrifying. I get that most people, at this point, associate Ghostface with things like their little brother’s Halloween costume or Scary Movie and maybe don’t find him that scary. But no. Literally, LOOK at that mask. The eyes are too empty and the mouth is way, way too long to be natural.
27. The Xenomorph, Alien

There are countless iterations of this parasitic and murderous alien monster, but there’s nothing quite like the OG Xenomorph from the first Alien movie. This guy comes out as a weird crab-like creature that pops out of an even weirder fleshy egg that latches on to your face and falls off before a little demon-alien baby (think: Bella’s vampire child but scarier) bursts out of your stomach and grows into a human-size killing machine with an extra jaw. Need I say more?
28. Tom Ripley, The Talented Mr. Ripley
This may be more of a thriller than a horror movie, and half of the stuff that Matt Damon does feels kiiiiiiiiind of aspirational until you realize that he’s a sociopath. But like some of the other villains on this list, it’s the quiet ones you need to watch out for. The so-called “nice guys” you don’t see coming.

If you haven’t seen It Follows, allow me to explain the setup: You have sex with someone infected by the entity. The entity, which can take the shape of anyone, including people you know, starts following you. The entity follows you until it kills you or you pass it on to someone else through sex. If the entity kills that person, it comes back for you. You can never go anywhere with only one exit, you can never trust anyone, and you can never sleep again. Basically, you are fucked for all eternity. Good luck! (Bonus: For a good three or four days after watching this movie, you will believe every single person you see is a sex demon coming to murder you.)
31. Annabelle, The Conjuring and Annabelle

Annabelle certainly isn’t the first villain to prove that dolls are horrible and should never be allowed in the hands of human children, but she does hold the distinct honor of being based on an IRL doll believed to be responsible for the death of at least one person. Having met that doll, I can confirm that she is just as scary in real life as she is onscreen, if not more so.

In Minnie’s defense, she’s not the only resident of the Bramford who conspired to get Rosemary knocked up with Lil Satan, but she’s definitely the one you’d least expect—and that’s what makes her terrifying. She might look like an innocent elderly neighbor who just wants to help calm your pregnancy nerves (for the love of god, don’t take the herbs!), but in reality, she’s a devil worshipper determined to make sure your newborn ends up in a black bassinet designed for a hell spawn. He has his father’s eyes!

But no child, real or imagined, is more terrifying than Samara Morgan, a monster so nightmare-inducing that after I first saw The Ring, my mom offered to take my television out of my bedroom lest Samara crawl out of it and strangle me. Sometimes you just need a classic horror flick.
As we all know, a scary movie lives or dies (but mostly dies a horrible death) by its villain. I don’t know about you, but watching a deranged serial killer run, walk, slink, or crawl across my screen sounds like the perfect way to get end a tough week. Here are the scariest horror movie villains to terrorize the big screen/serve as your Halloween costume vision board and/or sleep paralysis demons.
1. Dean, Missy, and Jeremy Armitage, Get Out
Get Out
The entire Armitage family in Get Out is terrifying and freaking psychotic. They possess the kind of passive, manipulative creepiness that absolutely fucks with your head and sends shivers through your whole body. That and the fact that they embody the insidious racism our country was built on.
2. Steve, Fresh

It’s only my biggest fear that I’ll hit it off with some guy only to end up chained up in his basement (and not in a fun and/or consensual way). This movie just gets wilder, scarier, and more twisted as it goes on! Sebastian Stan is so much of a charming everyman that it makes his villainous turn that much more likely to haunt you for weeks.

This underrated film is fuh-in-ah-lly getting the praise and recognition that it deserves. It’s such a good campy horror movie. Megan Fox is incredible as the villain. It’s funny and feminist and so freaking good. If you’re a f*ckboy, you should be scared of her.

Okay, so there are actually a few specific and terrifying characters in the A24 film who would technically be classified as “the villain” in a more traditional sense. One of them is based on “The Green Man” from folklore, which also popped up in a recent-ish season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. But it’s just men, right? It’s always just men.
10. The Facility, Cabin in the Woods

Monsters and jump scares are a dime a dozen in this spooky comedy, and any one of them is likely to shake you to your very core. The film’s “big bad” is an organization of corporate types who gleefully sacrifice young people and bet on which gore-filled horror will get them first. Somehow these heartless dweebs are the scariest of all. (That said, special shoutout to the Merman, always.)
11. Vivian Tyrell, Vampires vs. The Bronx

Well…*pushes glasses up nose* the real villain is gentrification, but who better to represent that than the white girl who is new to the neighborhood and just so happens to be a bloodthirsty vampire? It’s not as subtle as Get Out, but since when has horror ever aimed for subtly?

A possessed, demonic, and spidery creature, this controlling mother is none too pleased when her two young daughters are adopted—even though she abandoned them in the woods for, um, five years. So she does what any mother would do: she terrorizes and tortures everyone, including her! own! children!

You could argue that Carrie White is actually the victim in this story. But just because her murdering rampage is kinda warranted doesn’t mean it’s not also horrifying as hell.

Not gonna lie, any time a movie shows someone getting shaved by a straight razor my blood turns to ice. It’s 100 percent because of this musical.

Now, do I love that Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel hero made such a dramatic villainous turn after seemingly getting closure in WandaVision? Not really! But that’s where we’re at, and I was delightfully spooked by all of the gruesome ways she magically murdered people in the movie.
17. Seth Brundle, The Fly
Bloody Disgusting
Seth Brundle was just your typical crazy mad scientist trying to impress a girl with a supposed breakthrough invention. Until the experiment took a very different course…one that involves Brundle slowly morphing into a human-sized fly creature that’s just as gross as it sounds.
18. Henry, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Michael Rooker’s harrowing performance as serial killer Henry Lee Lucas is deeply, deeply disturbing. You know this is based on a true story of a real-life murderer, right? Do not, I repeat, do *not* watch this alone at night.
19. Anna Ivers, The Uninvited

I don’t want to give away too much butttttt the movie revolves around Anna, who has been in a psych ward for nearly a year following the death of her terminally ill mother. In this psychological thriller, it’s unclear what’s real and what’s a hallucination until the very, very end—at which point, one last twist awaits you.

Why do we let little kids play with dolls and pretend like they aren’t the scariest things ever?!?!? Brahms is a creepy, life-like doll who terrorizes anyone who comes in contact with him. Thanks Hollywood, but I don’t need another reason to harbor ridiculous paranoia about dolls!

Listen, obviously little kids can be super cute and adorable, but they can also be freaking CREEPY. Exhibit A: Esther, from Orphan. Esther epitomizes Evil Child Syndrome, which is a real thing, apparently.

His hobbies include sneaking into Cecilia’s room and pulling off the bed covers while she’s sleeping and tackling her from behind, ya know, just stuff that makes everyone around Cecilia question her sanity.

But if you’ve ever been afraid of the deep blue sea, this massive great white villain—with his rows of razor-sharp teeth, hankering for human flesh, and a not an ounce of remorse—will only confirm your fears. There are countless iterations of this parasitic and murderous alien monster, but there’s nothing quite like the OG Xenomorph from the first Alien movie. This guy comes out as a weird crab-like creature that pops out of an even weirder fleshy egg that latches on to your face and falls off before a little demon-alien baby (think: Bella’s vampire child but scarier) bursts out of your stomach and grows into a human-size killing machine with an extra jaw. Need I say more?
28. Tom Ripley, The Talented Mr. Ripley
This may be more of a thriller than a horror movie, and half of the stuff that Matt Damon does feels kiiiiiiiiind of aspirational until you realize that he’s a sociopath. But like some of the other villains on this list, it’s the quiet ones you need to watch out for. The so-called “nice guys” you don’t see coming.

Basically, you are fucked for all eternity. Good luck! (Bonus: For a good three or four days after watching this movie, you will believe every single person you see is a sex demon coming to murder you.)

With a career that for some years has placed him as one of the greatest highlights of contemporary Brazilian music and pop, the carioca also makes it clear that more than a work of a personal nature, it is also a collection of his reach as an artist: A guy with fluency in different styles and good communication between various bubbles.
That was the subject of the interview with the pavé music on the eve of the album’s release, in May, which continued the conversation in February recorded on the podcast. At the time, he gave some hints about what the album would be, and he was right when he said that it would bring several surprises – the presence of Lulu Santos and Chris, in the partnerships, are just two of them.
Música Pavé: It is evident your intention to show your musical versatility in young Carlos. From beginning to end of the record, the listener takes a long tour of many of the sounds with which you identify. And my first question is simple: Why? Why show the public this plurality of yours?
Lucas Carlos: Because I felt that it was the moment to show it there, to assume this truth. I feel that, even without a first record, I’ve done so much, I’ve made music with a lot of people, so many people have seen me at different stages of my life, and I had never called any project an “album” because I felt that I I already had some songs that were too different to be in the middle of the projects I was doing. So, I think that was the way I wanted to present these songs together, even though they were different from each other.
MP: “Together, but different”. When putting together the repertoire, were you concerned with giving the work greater cohesion?
lucas: We had to adapt, yes. There was a time when it wasn’t my face anymore. I don’t know, he was very calm, you know? (Laughter) “Guys, it needs to sound more so“. And so, we arrived at this result.
MP: Having so many people involved in the production was something that helped or was it a challenge for the record to have your face?
Lucas: It really helped. I feel like music, when it’s collaborative, it can go far, to places no one knows, you know? I wanted to bring that on record as well. Since I go to other places, I can ask for help from my university students here to tell these stories.
MP: When we talked in February, you mentioned a very natural way of working with other people – “when I saw it, I was already composing”, “I was already producing”. What was it like to work with the intention of making an album, directing creativity towards a complete work?
Lucas: I think I had so much time to do that it became a mission. People were already expecting it, I had been talking about it for a long time, there were people who thought I would never leave. There was no pressure, got it? But I really wanted to do something cool, and that motivated more than anything. We are going to do several festivals this year, [queria produzir] music that matched the environment that we want to permeate from now on.
MP: I was going to ask you that now, about the resumption of festivals.It has been interesting to see how the event schedules have also been quite plural. So, whoever delivers a versatile show – for example, Ludmilla, who goes from funk to pagode in the same show – fits even better into what is expected of a festival.
Lucas: Yes, and my desire, since I was little, is to be on these stages. There’s a cool thing about having a festival, because there are a lot of people to see other people, and many don’t know you, you know? So, you’re singing to a guy who’s going to listen to you, then he’s going to see you at another festival and takes a friend with him. The thing just keeps getting bigger.
MP: Still on the subject of versatility, your two guests – Lulu Santos and Chris – are also very different from each other. What was it like to put these two together there, on top of that in consecutive tracks on the record?
Lucas: Man, I wanted to put the feats together, as if it were at a show, a vibe where they enter there at that moment. Chris is a guy I’ve wanted to put on a project for a while – we’ve done things together, but not on a project of mine, so it was really good. And Lulu, I have no words, right? It’s a legend. For me, it’s a real honor, man, to have someone like that on the record, for him to believe and stick together. Wow, I’m very happy with the participation.
MP: When this record comes out tomorrow, what do you think will be the biggest surprises for the people who are already following you?
Lucas: I think samba, the Brown, if you let also… I think all of them, really. It’s a really cool record, I think people will listen to it and understand, you know? People often asked who Luccas Carlos is. “Oh, he just makes a chorus” and I don’t know what… no, bro, it’s here, look. Look what the chorus guy does there (laughs).
MP: The record has that name and has this cover. What do you think we’re going to learn about you with these songs?
Lucas: I think it’s a really personal record: Several conversations with me, I address several subjects that I sometimes didn’t even talk to the person, but I made the music. Here’s what I thought at the time, get it? I think I was always very afraid of going to that place, and then, on this record, I let go of that fear. We never know, when we launch a project… I don’t know, there’s a song that you think will happen, but it’s up to the people to decide. It’s always a relief to see this roller coaster. So I just want to see how people will respond. It’s not long, it’s 17:00 already… in a little while it’ll be on the dancefloor (laughs).
MP: Since we’re talking about festivals, I want to make a joke here, a pretendwith you: If Luccas Carlos is in line upwho does the show before and who does the show after him?
lucas: There could be a… Tyler, The Creator… and then… Djavan, go.
MP: In the same way that the new album allows you to be in more festivals, it can also insert you in different playlists. Which ones do you think you could be in?
Lucas: I wanted to fall into a samba, or MPB with Brown. I think it’s very important to talk to the base – I’m a guy who hits it a lot -, I want to talk to people who come from where I come, who listen to what I hear, but I think it’s also very important to reach other places. Additionally, the researchers found that in today’s connected world low engagement with digital media is also associated with poor mental health outcomes for adolescents who spend less time online than their peers. This finding supports the ‘goldilocks’ hypothesis — that digital media use at moderate levels is not intrinsically harmful and there is a point between low and high use that is ‘just right’ for young people.
This is the first time the ‘goldilocks’ theory has been examined in Irish teenagers/young adults. It is also the first study to attempt the integration of both time and online behaviours when examining associations between digital media and mental wellbeing.
Professor Richard Layte, Professor of Sociology and co-author on the paper, said:
“Evidence is mounting internationally that online engagement among adolescents may be damaging for mental well-being but the evidence is mixed. Our work provides fresh insights on the impact of digital engagement at the age of 17/18 and the results provide worrying evidence of real harms that require urgent action.”
“There is a simple narrative out there that more is worse. It is important to emphasise that online engagement is now a normal channel of social participation and non-use has consequences. Our findings also raise the possibility that moderate use is important in today’s digital world and that low levels of online engagement carries its own risks. Now the questions for researchers are how much is too much and how little is too little?”
The research, drawing on longitudinal data from the Growing Up in Ireland study, looked at the association between adolescent use of online engagement and mental wellbeing in over 6,000 young people between the age of 13 and again at the age of 17/18.
The researchers asked participants to report the time they spent on line as well as the activities they engaged in: online messaging, sharing of videos and pictures, school or college work, watching movies and listening to music. Mental wellbeing was assessed by questions investigating emotional, behavioural and peer issues.
The study characterised young person’s online behaviour based on length of time spent online as well as the types of online behaviours engaged in. Adjusting for prior psychiatric disorders and symptoms at the age of 9 and 13, the study found that high engagement in digital media strongly predicted worse mental health outcomes for both boys and girls. Furthermore, low use of digital media was associated with worse mental health for both boys and girls and was also predictive of peer problems for girls.
Dr Ross Brannigan, lead author of the study and a former postdoctoral researcher in Trinity’s Department of Sociology, said:
“This study is novel in that it considers the importance of both time and online behaviours when examining associations between digital media and mental wellbeing. We found clear distinctions between groups spending similar time online, but differing in their behaviours online. This indicates the importance of considering both time and behaviours online as well as the quality of these behaviours, for example passive compared to active behaviours, or the types of behaviours such as social, educational, entertainment.”
“Digital media and online usage is a controversial topic when it comes to its effect on mental health, with no real consistency of results overall. While these results are not causal or deterministic, our findings are an important first step on the path to revealing why these relationships exist. It will now be importance to build on these findings and further investigate WHYdigital media engagement may be related to mental wellbeing.”
This study is part of the TeenPath Project, a collaborative project between the Department of Sociology in Trinity College Dublin and the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology in The School of Population Health, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

“There is a simple narrative out there that more is worse. It is important to emphasise that online engagement is now a normal channel of social participation and non-use has consequences. Our findings also raise the possibility that moderate use is important in today’s digital world and that low levels of online engagement carries its own risks. Now the questions for researchers are how much is too much and how little is too little?”
The research, drawing on longitudinal data from the Growing Up in Ireland study, looked at the association between adolescent use of online engagement and mental wellbeing in over 6,000 young people between the age of 13 and again at the age of 17/18.
The researchers asked participants to report the time they spent on line as well as the activities they engaged in: online messaging, sharing of videos and pictures, school or college work, watching movies and listening to music. Mental wellbeing was assessed by questions investigating emotional, behavioural and peer issues.
The study characterised young person’s online behaviour based on length of time spent online as well as the types of online behaviours engaged in. Adjusting for prior psychiatric disorders and symptoms at the age of 9 and 13, the study found that high engagement in digital media strongly predicted worse mental health outcomes for both boys and girls. Furthermore, low use of digital media was associated with worse mental health for both boys and girls and was also predictive of peer problems for girls.
Dr Ross Brannigan, lead author of the study and a former postdoctoral researcher in Trinity’s Department of Sociology, said:
“This study is novel in that it considers the importance of both time and online behaviours when examining associations between digital media and mental wellbeing. We found clear distinctions between groups spending similar time online, but differing in their behaviours online. This indicates the importance of considering both time and behaviours online as well as the quality of these behaviours, for example passive compared to active behaviours, or the types of behaviours such as social, educational, entertainment.”
“Digital media and online usage is a controversial topic when it comes to its effect on mental health, with no real consistency of results overall. While these results are not causal or deterministic, our findings are an important first step on the path to revealing why these relationships exist. It will now be importance to build on these findings and further investigate WHYdigital media engagement may be related to mental wellbeing.”
This study is part of the TeenPath Project, a collaborative project between the Department of Sociology in Trinity College Dublin and the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology in The School of Population Health, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

When he’s in town, you might find him at his favourite Vancouver restaurant, which he’s name-dropped in multiple interviews. Reynolds admitted that at one point he and wife Blake Lively had visited Minerva’s three times in one week.
He had also signed 100 bottles of Aviation Gin which were dispersed across five B.C. liquor stores, including three in Vancouver. They’re all sold now, but you can still stop by the Alberni and Bute, Park Royal, or 39th and Cambie locations and lament in knowing that you could’ve had an autographed bottle of gin.
Growing up in Vancouver, though, means he’s been around a lot more than a few local movie sets.
The actor had also spent a lot of his teenage years at Benny’s Bagels which is right across from his high school, Kitsilano Secondary School (he attended Prince of Wales Secondary School for grades 9 and 10). He even surprised the graduating class of 2020 at Kitsilano Secondary School with a free large pizza from Nat’s New York Pizzeria after delivering a virtual commencement speech.
He would also take the wrong bus to schooljust to see his crush (which he dare not speak to), as he admitted on The Graham Norton Show. Though he doesn’t say which route, it may have been the 14, 2, 4, 9 or 99-B line bus routes.
After graduating high school, Reynolds attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where he started an improv group called “Yellow Snow” which ended after he dropped out and moved to L.A.
According to Reynolds’ LinkedIn profilehe worked as a forklift driver at Safeway– the one on West King Edward and Oak streets. He even bagged Sarah McLachlan’s groceries.
Going further back, his first job was as a paperboy for the Vancouver Sun newspaper, delivering newspapers in his neighbourhood (he even has a painting of the good ol’ days), which comes full circle since he first appeared in the news at age three.

Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor has condemned the racist abuse that Obi-Wan Kenobi actress Moses Ingram has received online, following her debut as Imperial Inquisitor Reva/Third Sister.
Following on from the franchise’s official social media accounts speaking out, McGregor has stated that he does not consider anyone who has sent Ingram abuse to be a fan.
“It seems that some of the fanbase has decided to attack Moses Ingram online and send her the most horrendous, racist DMs. I heard some of them this morning, and it just broke my heart,” he said in a new video.
