Wer jetzt aber nicht gerade zwei Wochen Zeit auf Reserve hat, dem kann ich jetzt im Frühling/Frühsommer einen Abstecher in die südöstlich von Siena gelegene Provinz definitiv ans Herz legen. Die Toskana zeigt sich hier von ihrer schönsten Seite! Wie und wo genau – zeige ich euch in den nachfolgenden Zeilen!
Das Val d’Orcia im Überblick
Das zur Provinz Siena gehörende Val d’Orcia umfasst die liebliche Hügellandschaft zwischen den Städten Montepulciano bis Montalcino (in Ost-West Richtung) und geht in südliche Richtung bis nach Radicofani runter. Namensgeber ist der 70 Kilometer lange Fluss «Orcia», der sich von Casciano dei Bagni herkommend von Osten nach Westen durch die Region schlängelt. Seit 2004 gehört das Val d’Orcia zu den UNESCO Welterbestätten und hat sich damit auch zu den top Reisezielen der Toskana gemausert.
Die Distanzen zwischen den einzelnen Ortschaften sind – zumindest für italienische Verhältnisse – überschaubar. Um von Montepulciano nach Montalcino sind rund 45 Fahrminuten (ca. 40 Kilometer) einzurechnen. Und von San Quirico d’Orca bis nach Radicofani dauert es ca. 30 Fahrminuten (30 Kilometer). Das bedeutet, dass man mit einem Zeitbudget von zwei bis drei Tagen problemlos die Highlights des Val d’Orcia «abklappern» kann. Wer aber nebst dem Sightseeing auch die eine oder andere entspannte Stunde am Hotelpool verbringen möchte, der pickt sich die Sehenswürdigkeiten besser wohldosiert heraus.
Genau das haben wir gemacht und uns auf die Achse Montepulciano – Pienza – Montalcino konzentriert. Zusätzlich haben wir einen Abstecher nach Cortona in unser Reiseprogramm eingebaut. Cortona befindet sich 30 Kilometer nordöstlich von Montepulciano und liegt streng genommen nicht mehr im Val d’Orcia, sondern gehört zur toskanischen Provinz Arezzo.
1. Lupaia – das pittoreske Boutiquehotel im Herzen der Toskana
Als «Basislager» für die Sightseeingtour durchs Val d’Orcia diente uns das zwischen Montepulciano und Pienza gelegene historische Landgut Lupaia (Partnerlink). Die im Stil eines Boutiquehotels geführte Unterkunft war ein genialer Zufallstreffer.
Die Auswahl an interessanten Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten droht einem bei der Unterkunftsrecherche nämlich fast zu erschlagen – zumindest mir erging es so. Weingüter, Agriturismo, Ferienwohnungen, Bed & Breakfast; da ist definitiv für jeden Geschmack etwas mit dabei. Aus all dieser Fülle ist mir das Lupaia aber sofort ins Auge gestochen. Und als sich herausstellte, dass es sich entlang unserer anvisierten Route Richtung Süden befand und noch freie Zimmer zum gewünschten Datum vorhanden sind, überlegte ich nicht mehr lange hin und her, sondern drückte auf «Reservieren».
Zurückblickend ein guter Entscheid. Das Lupaia vermochte meine hohen Erwartungen vollumfänglich zu erfüllen! Das Landgut befindet sich knappe 15 Fahrminuten über eine Kiesstrasse von Montepulciano entfernt auf einer Anhöhe mit einem prächtigen Panoramablick über die für diese Region typische Kulturlandschaft, bestehend aus Olivenhainen, Zypressen, Weinreben und Buchenwälder. Die insgesamt 11 Zimmer und Suiten verteilen sich auf das Hauptgebäude und verschiedene kleinere Nebengebäude. Wir hatten das Standardzimmer «Aurora» gebucht, zu dem ein «privater» Garten gehört und das sich direkt neben dem Pool befindet.
Empfehlenswert ist auch das zum Hotel gehörende Restaurant. Hier wird täglich in einer offenen Küche ein frisches toskanisches 4-Gang-Menü gekocht. Nach Möglichkeit wird dabei saisonales Bio-Gemüse aus dem hoteleigenen Anbau verwendet. Das Frühstück wird à la carte serviert, was uns ebenfalls zugesagt hat. Anzumerken ist einzig, dass die Frühstückskarte den internationalen Gästemix widerspiegelt. French Toast und Porridge sind für italienische Verhältnisse nämlich doch eher unübliche Frühstückskomponenten.
Was kostet ein Aufenthalt im Lupaia?
Das Lupaia (Partnerlink) bietet 5-Sterne Komfort. Das zeigt sich auch in den Zimmerpreisen, die bei rund 700 Euro für zwei Nächte im Doppelzimmer mit Frühstück starten. Beachtet zudem, dass Einzelnächte lediglich kurzfristig buchbar sind und in der Regel ein Mindestaufenthalt von 2 Nächten vorausgesetzt wird. Das Abendmenü kostet 65 Euro pro Person.
2. Der Rathausturm in Montepulciano
Wir liessen uns nicht mit dem Postkartenblick auf das stolz auf einem Hügel thronenden Montepulciano begnügen, sondern statteten dem hübschen toskanischen Kleinstädtchen natürlich auch einen Besuch ab. Montepulciano lässt sich vom Lupaia aus zu Fuss (ca. 5 Kilometer – 75 Minuten Gehzeit) mit dem Fahrrad (es stehen Leihräder zur Verfügung) oder mit dem Auto erreichen.
Topografisch bedingt kommt man bei einem Bummel durch die mittelalterlichen Altstadtgassen von Montepulciano nicht um den einen oder anderen Höhenmeter herum. Mit der repräsentativen «Piazza Grande» befindet sich das Herzstück der Altstadt nämlich an ihrem höchsten Punkt. Die Piazza Grande wird vom Dom, eleganten Palastbauten aus dem 16. Jahrhundert (dem Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi und Contucci) sowie dem repräsentativen Rathaus (einer Miniatur-Version des Palazzo Vecchio in Florenz) gesäumt.
Für den schönsten Blick auf die Dächerlandschaft von Montepulciano lohnt es sich an dieser Stelle noch einige zusätzliche Höhenmeter in Kauf zu nehmen. Und zwar ist der Rathausturm vom April bis November jeweils von 10:00 Uhr bis 18:00 Uhr zugänglich (Eintrittspreis: 5 Euro).
Wo parkiere ich in Montepulciano?
Die öffentlichen (kostenpflichtigen) Parkierungsanlagen sind über die Via dell’Oriolo erschlossen und auch entsprechend ausgeschildert. Besonders viele Stellplätze finden sich auf Höhe P6 an der Via delle Case Nuove. Die Zu- und Wegfahrt führt über ein schmales und nur bedingt im Gegenverkehr funktionierendes Strassenstück. Es lohnt sich daher, Stosszeiten zu vermeiden und den Abstecher nach Montepulciano am Vormittag (vor 11 Uhr) einzuplanen.
3. Die Panoramastrasse SP 146
Das Val d’Orcia ist ein beliebtes Reiseziel von Landschaftsfotografen. Wer im Vorfeld seiner Reise im Internet nach Reisetipps und Sehenswürdigkeiten recherchiert, wird auf diversen Seiten auf dieselben Fotospots stossen. Die Mehrheit davon befindet sich entlang der Strada Provinciale (SP) 146. Die SP 146 führt von Montepulciano via Pienza nach San Quirico d’Orcia und gilt als eine der schönsten Panoramastrassen Italiens.
Real Talk: Es ist durchaus eine nett zu fahrende Überlandstrecke, die schöne Landschaftsblicke bereithält. Und ihr werdet sie so oder so abfahren, wenn ihr vorhabt, von Montepulciano nach Pienza (oder umgekehrt) zu fahren. Da sie aber zwischen diesen Ortschaften auch die Hauptverbindung darstellt und dementsprechend nicht nur «Sonntagsfahrer» unterwegs sind, sind zügige Fahrweisen und abenteuerliche Überholmanöver gang und gäbe. Einfach mal kurz seitlich für ein Foto anhalten ist – meiner Meinung nach – aus Gründen der Verkehrssicherheit nicht empfehlenswert (zumindest nicht während der Hauptverkehrszeiten). Daher mein Tipp: geniesst das Panorama, vergesst aber nicht, das Geschehen auf der Strasse im Auge zu behalten.
Bezahlt man für das Befahren der SP 146 eine Mautgebühr?
Nein die Provinzstrasse ist nicht mautpflichtig.
4. Das Renaissance-Städtchen Pienza
Pienza liegt 20 Fahrminuten von Montepulciano entfernt im Zentrum des Val d’Orcia. Sie gilt nicht nur als Hauptstadt des Pecorinos, sondern auch als Musterbeispiel für die Renaissancearchitektur und wurde bereits 1996 (und damit acht Jahre vor dem gesamten Val d’Orcia) in die Liste der Welterbestätten aufgenommen. Spannend finde ich, dass das heutige Erscheinungsbild von Pienza das Ergebnis einer geplanten «Idealstadt» ist. Die Initiative hierfür ging von Papst Pius II aus, der nach seiner Wahl zum Papst im Jahr 1458 seine bis dahin unbedeutende Heimatstadt zu einer Stadt mit Vorbildcharakter umgestalten wollte.
Der Altstadtkern von Pienza präsentiert sich kompakt und herausgeputzt. Der Rundgang entlang dem Corso il Rossellino via Pizza Pio II und über die aussichtsreiche Stadtmauer «Via del Casello» nimmt de facto keine dreissig Minuten in Anspruch. Ich empfehle daher, den Zwischenstopp in Pienza mit einem Mittagessen in der Trattoria Latte di Luna zu kombinieren oder für den abendlichen «Aperitivo» in der Bar Idyllum einzukehren.
Wo parkiere ich in Pienza?
Die beste Parkmöglichkeit in Pienza befindet sich in kurzer Gehdistanz zur Altstadt an der Via S. Gregorio. Am besten markiert ihr euch auf Google den Location Tag «Parking Pienza». Es gibt dort einige wenige kostenlose Parkfelder (weiss markiert). Der Rest ist kostenpflichtig (blau markiert).
5. Die Brunello-Hochburg Montalcino
Alle, die sich für toskanische Weine interessieren, sollten bei einem Aufenthalt im Val d’Orcia selbstverständlich auch einen Abstecher nach Montalcino einplanen. Der Brunello di Montalcino (bestehend aus 100% Sangiovese Trauben) zählt zu den renommiertesten italienischen Weinen mit geschützter Herkunftsbezeichnung (DOC). Degustieren lässt sich dieser auf diversen Weingütern oder direkt beim Ortseingang in der Enoteca la Fortezza di Montalcino.
Hier lassen sich sogar zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe schlagen: Die Enoteca fungiert gleichzeitig auch als Eintrittspforte zum Rundgang über die Festungsmauer. Das Eintrittsticket (Kostenpunkt: 4 Euro) kann direkt in der Enoteca gekauft werden und danach geht’s über Treppenstufen hinauf zum Wehrgang, der eine fantastische Aussicht über die Dächer von Montalcino bietet.
Wie in Montepulciano und Pienza lohnt es sich auch hier, der Nase nach durch die Altstadtgassen zu flanieren. Die meisten Touristen bleiben im vordersten Drittel bzw. spätestens auf der Höhe der Via Boldrini hängen – je weiter man in Richtung Porta Burelli spaziert, desto weniger Leute trifft man an.
Wo parkiere ich in Montalcino?
Montalcino verfügt über eine relativ grosse (kostenpflichtige) Parkierungsanlage direkt unterhalb des Altstadtkern auf Höhe der Strasse Via Aldo Moro. Von hier aus ist man in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss beim Fort. Sehr gut zugänglich und in der Regel sollte man hier problemlos einen Platz finden.
6. Das von den Etruskern gegründete Cortona
Streng genommen liegt Cortona nicht mehr im Val d’Orcia (Provinz Siena), sondern in der benachbarten Provinz Arezzo. Bei mir ist die geschichtsträchtige Stadt, die als eine der bedeutendsten und ältesten Stätten der Etrusker gilt, bei der Recherche nach interessanten Restaurants im Umkreis von Montepulciano auf den Radar gerückt. Cortona verfügt im Vergleich zu Pienza, Montalcino oder auch Montepulciano einen vergleichsweise grossen Altstadtkern, der auf drei Seiten von hohen Mauern umgeben ist. Im Innern pulsiert das Leben – insbesondere nach Feierabend.
Mir hat diese lockere Stimmung extrem gut gefallen und bei einem nächsten Mal würde ich mir definitiv mehr Zeit für Cortona nehmen. Markiert euch in jedem Fall den Aussichtspunkt Belvedere di Cortona – von hier aus seht ihr bis zum Lago Trasimeno.
Wo parkiere ich in Cortona?
Die Parkierungsmöglichkeiten befinden sich entlang der SP 34, welche rund um den Altstadtkern von Cortona führt. Sehr praktisch gelegen ist das Parking Porta Colonia. Dieses ist aber meist sehr gut gefüllt. Auf dem etwas versteckter liegenden Parcheggio Porta Colonia inferiore hat man daher meist etwas mehr Glück. Das Parkieren ist hier kostenlos.
7. Fine Dining Highlight: Organika Ristorante
Der eigentliche Grund für unseren Abstecher nach Cortona – das Organika Ristorante – befindet sich in zehn Minuten Fussdistanz ausserhalb des Altstadtkerns hinter der Chiesa Santa Maria Nuova. Entdeckt hatte ich das Organika unter den sorgfältig für die Gäste zusammengestellten Restaurantempfehlungen des Lupaia. Die guten Bewertungen und lobenden Worte bis hin zu «Michelin Star quality» machten uns neugierig. Das Abendessen war dann auch wirklich von A bis Z köstlich – wenn auch in den Portionen für uns teils etwas zu üppig. Das Organika hat im Innern lediglich vier Tische und bietet damit eine sehr persönliche Atmosphäre. In den Sommermonaten wird draussen im Garten aufgetischt.
Was kostet ein Abendessen im Organika?
Das Organika hat ein 5-Gang-Menü für 50 Euro und ein 10-Gang-Menü für 70 Euro im Angebot. Eine Weinbegleitung mit 3 Gläsern plus einem Glas hausgemachten Vinsanto kostet 20 Euro.
Praktische Tipps für eine Reise ins Val d’Orcia – Toskana
Mit dem Zug dauert die Anreise von Zürich bis nach Montepulciano rund 9.5 bis 10 Stunden (je nach Verbindung). Mit dem Auto ist eine Anreisezeit von sieben Stunden einzuplanen. Wir haben uns übrigens für eine Kombi aus beidem entschieden und sind mit dem Zug bis Milano Malpensa gefahren und haben dort ein Auto angemietet.
Zwischen den einzelnen Städtchen bestehen Busverbindungen. Vor Ort ist man aber mit einem eigenen Auto definitiv flexibler aufgestellt. Insbesondere auch deshalb, weil die Agriturismo und Landgüter meist nicht direkt mit dem öffentlichen Verkehr erschlossen sind.
Als Reisezeitpunkt eignet sich der Frühling (April/Mai) und Herbst (Oktober/November). Dabei ist zu beachten, dass die «Saison» erst zu Ostern beginnt und meist anfangs/Mitte Oktober endet. Ausserhalb der Saison ist damit zu rechnen, dass manche Restaurants Betriebsferien haben und auch nicht alle Sehenswürdigkeiten geöffnet sind.

Eine Reise ins Val d’Orcia lässt sich je nach Zeitbudget mit einem Besuch von Florenz oder Siena kombinieren. Auch wenn Florenz unbestritten eine wunderschöne Stadt ist, konnte ich mich aufgrund der Touristenmassen nicht so recht mit ihr anfreunden und bevorzuge Siena.
Weitere sehenswerte Orte sind San Gimignano (zwischen Florenz und Siena) und die umbrische Hauptstadt Perugia. Die Fahrt vom Lupaia nach Perugia dauert beispielsweise eine gute Stunde.

Seit 2004 gehört das Val d’Orcia zu den UNESCO Welterbestätten und hat sich damit auch zu den top Reisezielen der Toskana gemausert.
Die Distanzen zwischen den einzelnen Ortschaften sind – zumindest für italienische Verhältnisse – überschaubar. Um von Montepulciano nach Montalcino sind rund 45 Fahrminuten (ca. 40 Kilometer) einzurechnen. Und von San Quirico d’Orca bis nach Radicofani dauert es ca. 30 Fahrminuten (30 Kilometer). Das bedeutet, dass man mit einem Zeitbudget von zwei bis drei Tagen problemlos die Highlights des Val d’Orcia «abklappern» kann. Wer aber nebst dem Sightseeing auch die eine oder andere entspannte Stunde am Hotelpool verbringen möchte, der pickt sich die Sehenswürdigkeiten besser wohldosiert heraus.
Genau das haben wir gemacht und uns auf die Achse Montepulciano – Pienza – Montalcino konzentriert. Zusätzlich haben wir einen Abstecher nach Cortona in unser Reiseprogramm eingebaut. Cortona befindet sich 30 Kilometer nordöstlich von Montepulciano und liegt streng genommen nicht mehr im Val d’Orcia, sondern gehört zur toskanischen Provinz Arezzo.
1. Lupaia – das pittoreske Boutiquehotel im Herzen der Toskana
Als «Basislager» für die Sightseeingtour durchs Val d’Orcia diente uns das zwischen Montepulciano und Pienza gelegene historische Landgut Lupaia (Partnerlink). Die im Stil eines Boutiquehotels geführte Unterkunft war ein genialer Zufallstreffer.
Die Auswahl an interessanten Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten droht einem bei der Unterkunftsrecherche nämlich fast zu erschlagen – zumindest mir erging es so. Weingüter, Agriturismo, Ferienwohnungen, Bed & Breakfast; da ist definitiv für jeden Geschmack etwas mit dabei. Aus all dieser Fülle ist mir das Lupaia aber sofort ins Auge gestochen. Und als sich herausstellte, dass es sich entlang unserer anvisierten Route Richtung Süden befand und noch freie Zimmer zum gewünschten Datum vorhanden sind, überlegte ich nicht mehr lange hin und her, sondern drückte auf «Reservieren».
Zurückblickend ein guter Entscheid. Das Lupaia vermochte meine hohen Erwartungen vollumfänglich zu erfüllen! Das Landgut befindet sich knappe 15 Fahrminuten über eine Kiesstrasse von Montepulciano entfernt auf einer Anhöhe mit einem prächtigen Panoramablick über die für diese Region typische Kulturlandschaft, bestehend aus Olivenhainen, Zypressen, Weinreben und Buchenwälder. Die insgesamt 11 Zimmer und Suiten verteilen sich auf das Hauptgebäude und verschiedene kleinere Nebengebäude. Wir hatten das Standardzimmer «Aurora» gebucht, zu dem ein «privater» Garten gehört und das sich direkt neben dem Pool befindet.
Empfehlenswert ist auch das zum Hotel gehörende Restaurant. Hier wird täglich in einer offenen Küche ein frisches toskanisches 4-Gang-Menü gekocht. Nach Möglichkeit wird dabei saisonales Bio-Gemüse aus dem hoteleigenen Anbau verwendet. Das Frühstück wird à la carte serviert, was uns ebenfalls zugesagt hat. Anzumerken ist einzig, dass die Frühstückskarte den internationalen Gästemix widerspiegelt. French Toast und Porridge sind für italienische Verhältnisse nämlich doch eher unübliche Frühstückskomponenten.
Was kostet ein Aufenthalt im Lupaia?
Das Lupaia (Partnerlink) bietet 5-Sterne Komfort. Das zeigt sich auch in den Zimmerpreisen, die bei rund 700 Euro für zwei Nächte im Doppelzimmer mit Frühstück starten. Beachtet zudem, dass Einzelnächte lediglich kurzfristig buchbar sind und in der Regel ein Mindestaufenthalt von 2 Nächten vorausgesetzt wird. Das Abendmenü kostet 65 Euro pro Person.
2. Der Rathausturm in Montepulciano
Wir liessen uns nicht mit dem Postkartenblick auf das stolz auf einem Hügel thronenden Montepulciano begnügen, sondern statteten dem hübschen toskanischen Kleinstädtchen natürlich auch einen Besuch ab. Montepulciano lässt sich vom Lupaia aus zu Fuss (ca. 5 Kilometer – 75 Minuten Gehzeit) mit dem Fahrrad (es stehen Leihräder zur Verfügung) oder mit dem Auto erreichen.
Topografisch bedingt kommt man bei einem Bummel durch die mittelalterlichen Altstadtgassen von Montepulciano nicht um den einen oder anderen Höhenmeter herum. Mit der repräsentativen «Piazza Grande» befindet sich das Herzstück der Altstadt nämlich an ihrem höchsten Punkt. Die Piazza Grande wird vom Dom, eleganten Palastbauten aus dem 16. Jahrhundert (dem Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi und Contucci) sowie dem repräsentativen Rathaus (einer Miniatur-Version des Palazzo Vecchio in Florenz) gesäumt.
Für den schönsten Blick auf die Dächerlandschaft von Montepulciano lohnt es sich an dieser Stelle noch einige zusätzliche Höhenmeter in Kauf zu nehmen. Und zwar ist der Rathausturm vom April bis November jeweils von 10:00 Uhr bis 18:00 Uhr zugänglich (Eintrittspreis: 5 Euro).
Wo parkiere ich in Montepulciano?
Die öffentlichen (kostenpflichtigen) Parkierungsanlagen sind über die Via dell’Oriolo erschlossen und auch entsprechend ausgeschildert. Besonders viele Stellplätze finden sich auf Höhe P6 an der Via delle Case Nuove. Die Zu- und Wegfahrt führt über ein schmales und nur bedingt im Gegenverkehr funktionierendes Strassenstück. Es lohnt sich daher, Stosszeiten zu vermeiden und den Abstecher nach Montepulciano am Vormittag (vor 11 Uhr) einzuplanen.
3. Die Panoramastrasse SP 146
Das Val d’Orcia ist ein beliebtes Reiseziel von Landschaftsfotografen. Wer im Vorfeld seiner Reise im Internet nach Reisetipps und Sehenswürdigkeiten recherchiert, wird auf diversen Seiten auf dieselben Fotospots stossen. Die Mehrheit davon befindet sich entlang der Strada Provinciale (SP) 146. Die SP 146 führt von Montepulciano via Pienza nach San Quirico d’Orcia und gilt als eine der schönsten Panoramastrassen Italiens.
Real Talk: Es ist durchaus eine nett zu fahrende Überlandstrecke, die schöne Landschaftsblicke bereithält. Und ihr werdet sie so oder so abfahren, wenn ihr vorhabt, von Montepulciano nach Pienza (oder umgekehrt) zu fahren. Da sie aber zwischen diesen Ortschaften auch die Hauptverbindung darstellt und dementsprechend nicht nur «Sonntagsfahrer» unterwegs sind, sind zügige Fahrweisen und abenteuerliche Überholmanöver gang und gäbe. Einfach mal kurz seitlich für ein Foto anhalten ist – meiner Meinung nach – aus Gründen der Verkehrssicherheit nicht empfehlenswert (zumindest nicht während der Hauptverkehrszeiten). Daher mein Tipp: geniesst das Panorama, vergesst aber nicht, das Geschehen auf der Strasse im Auge zu behalten.
Bezahlt man für das Befahren der SP 146 eine Mautgebühr?
Nein die Provinzstrasse ist nicht mautpflichtig.
4. Das Renaissance-Städtchen Pienza
Pienza liegt 20 Fahrminuten von Montepulciano entfernt im Zentrum des Val d’Orcia. Sie gilt nicht nur als Hauptstadt des Pecorinos, sondern auch als Musterbeispiel für die Renaissancearchitektur und wurde bereits 1996 (und damit acht Jahre vor dem gesamten Val d’Orcia) in die Liste der Welterbestätten aufgenommen. Spannend finde ich, dass das heutige Erscheinungsbild von Pienza das Ergebnis einer geplanten «Idealstadt» ist. Die Initiative hierfür ging von Papst Pius II aus, der nach seiner Wahl zum Papst im Jahr 1458 seine bis dahin unbedeutende Heimatstadt zu einer Stadt mit Vorbildcharakter umgestalten wollte.
Der Altstadtkern von Pienza präsentiert sich kompakt und herausgeputzt. Der Rundgang entlang dem Corso il Rossellino via Pizza Pio II und über die aussichtsreiche Stadtmauer «Via del Casello» nimmt de facto keine dreissig Minuten in Anspruch. Ich empfehle daher, den Zwischenstopp in Pienza mit einem Mittagessen in der Trattoria Latte di Luna zu kombinieren oder für den abendlichen «Aperitivo» in der Bar Idyllum einzukehren.
Wo parkiere ich in Pienza?
Die beste Parkmöglichkeit in Pienza befindet sich in kurzer Gehdistanz zur Altstadt an der Via S. Gregorio. Am besten markiert ihr euch auf Google den Location Tag «Parking Pienza». Es gibt dort einige wenige kostenlose Parkfelder (weiss markiert). Der Rest ist kostenpflichtig (blau markiert).
5. Die Brunello-Hochburg Montalcino
Alle, die sich für toskanische Weine interessieren, sollten bei einem Aufenthalt im Val d’Orcia selbstverständlich auch einen Abstecher nach Montalcino einplanen. Der Brunello di Montalcino (bestehend aus 100% Sangiovese Trauben) zählt zu den renommiertesten italienischen Weinen mit geschützter Herkunftsbezeichnung (DOC). Degustieren lässt sich dieser auf diversen Weingütern oder direkt beim Ortseingang in der Enoteca la Fortezza di Montalcino.
Hier lassen sich sogar zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe schlagen: Die Enoteca fungiert gleichzeitig auch als Eintrittspforte zum Rundgang über die Festungsmauer. Das Eintrittsticket (Kostenpunkt: 4 Euro) kann direkt in der Enoteca gekauft werden und danach geht’s über Treppenstufen hinauf zum Wehrgang, der eine fantastische Aussicht über die Dächer von Montalcino bietet.
Wie in Montepulciano und Pienza lohnt es sich auch hier, der Nase nach durch die Altstadtgassen zu flanieren. Die meisten Touristen bleiben im vordersten Drittel bzw. spätestens auf der Höhe der Via Boldrini hängen – je weiter man in Richtung Porta Burelli spaziert, desto weniger Leute trifft man an.
Wo parkiere ich in Montalcino?
Montalcino verfügt über eine relativ grosse (kostenpflichtige) Parkierungsanlage direkt unterhalb des Altstadtkern auf Höhe der Strasse Via Aldo Moro. Von hier aus ist man in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss beim Fort. Sehr gut zugänglich und in der Regel sollte man hier problemlos einen Platz finden.
6. Das von den Etruskern gegründete Cortona
Streng genommen liegt Cortona nicht mehr im Val d’Orcia (Provinz Siena), sondern in der benachbarten Provinz Arezzo. Bei mir ist die geschichtsträchtige Stadt, die als eine der bedeutendsten und ältesten Stätten der Etrusker gilt, bei der Recherche nach interessanten Restaurants im Umkreis von Montepulciano auf den Radar gerückt. Cortona verfügt im Vergleich zu Pienza, Montalcino oder auch Montepulciano einen vergleichsweise grossen Altstadtkern, der auf drei Seiten von hohen Mauern umgeben ist. Im Innern pulsiert das Leben – insbesondere nach Feierabend.
Mir hat diese lockere Stimmung extrem gut gefallen und bei einem nächsten Mal würde ich mir definitiv mehr Zeit für Cortona nehmen. Markiert euch in jedem Fall den Aussichtspunkt Belvedere di Cortona – von hier aus seht ihr bis zum Lago Trasimeno.
Wo parkiere ich in Cortona?
Die Parkierungsmöglichkeiten befinden sich entlang der SP 34, welche rund um den Altstadtkern von Cortona führt. Sehr praktisch gelegen ist das Parking Porta Colonia. Dieses ist aber meist sehr gut gefüllt. Auf dem etwas versteckter liegenden Parcheggio Porta Colonia inferiore hat man daher meist etwas mehr Glück. Das Parkieren ist hier kostenlos.
7. Fine Dining Highlight: Organika Ristorante
Der eigentliche Grund für unseren Abstecher nach Cortona – das Organika Ristorante – befindet sich in zehn Minuten Fussdistanz ausserhalb des Altstadtkerns hinter der Chiesa Santa Maria Nuova. Entdeckt hatte ich das Organika unter den sorgfältig für die Gäste zusammengestellten Restaurantempfehlungen des Lupaia. Die guten Bewertungen und lobenden Worte bis hin zu «Michelin Star quality» machten uns neugierig. Das Abendessen war dann auch wirklich von A bis Z köstlich – wenn auch in den Portionen für uns teils etwas zu üppig. Das Organika hat im Innern lediglich vier Tische und bietet damit eine sehr persönliche Atmosphäre. In den Sommermonaten wird draussen im Garten aufgetischt.
Was kostet ein Abendessen im Organika?
Das Organika hat ein 5-Gang-Menü für 50 Euro und ein 10-Gang-Menü für 70 Euro im Angebot. Eine Weinbegleitung mit 3 Gläsern plus einem Glas hausgemachten Vinsanto kostet 20 Euro.
Praktische Tipps für eine Reise ins Val d’Orcia – Toskana
Mit dem Zug dauert die Anreise von Zürich bis nach Montepulciano rund 9.5 bis 10 Stunden (je nach Verbindung). Mit dem Auto ist eine Anreisezeit von sieben Stunden einzuplanen. Wir haben uns übrigens für eine Kombi aus beidem entschieden und sind mit dem Zug bis Milano Malpensa gefahren und haben dort ein Auto angemietet.
Zwischen den einzelnen Städtchen bestehen Busverbindungen. Vor Ort ist man aber mit einem eigenen Auto definitiv flexibler aufgestellt. Insbesondere auch deshalb, weil die Agriturismo und Landgüter meist nicht direkt mit dem öffentlichen Verkehr erschlossen sind.
Als Reisezeitpunkt eignet sich der Frühling (April/Mai) und Herbst (Oktober/November). Dabei ist zu beachten, dass die «Saison» erst zu Ostern beginnt und meist anfangs/Mitte Oktober endet. Ausserhalb der Saison ist damit zu rechnen, dass manche Restaurants Betriebsferien haben und auch nicht alle Sehenswürdigkeiten geöffnet sind.

Eine Reise ins Val d’Orcia lässt sich je nach Zeitbudget mit einem Besuch von Florenz oder Siena kombinieren. Auch wenn Florenz unbestritten eine wunderschöne Stadt ist, konnte ich mich aufgrund der Touristenmassen nicht so recht mit ihr anfreunden und bevorzuge Siena.
Weitere sehenswerte Orte sind San Gimignano (zwischen Florenz und Siena) und die umbrische Hauptstadt Perugia. Die Fahrt vom Lupaia nach Perugia dauert beispielsweise eine gute Stunde.

Reisen mit großem Hund
Seit Juni 2018 lebt Vizsla Buddy bei uns, er war damals acht Monate alt. Mit ihm sind wir im Auto in Deutschland und Europa unterwegs. Reisen mit Hund klappt mit unserer großen, quicklebendigen Zimtnase mittlerweile gut.
Denn das Autofahren verträgt er ohne Probleme. Auch schläft er in Hotelzimmer oder Ferienwohnung entspannt auf seinem Hundebett.
Doch draußen reagiert er auf alle Reize und ist manchmal hibbelig. Café- und Restaurantbesuche findet er eher langweilig. Viel lieber dreht er am Strand, im Wald oder auf Wiesen seine Runden.
Entspannter Hundeurlaub auf Texel
Warum wir Hundeurlaub auf der Insel machten? Sie gilt als sehr hundefreundlich. Außerdem hatte ich mich auf Soloreisen schon in die anderen westfriesischen Inseln Terschelling und Ameland verliebt.
Auf Ameland war ich im Herbst 2021 mit Martina vom Blog Hunde reisen mehr. Dort erzählte sie mir, dass sie mit ihrem Mann Thomas und ihren zwei Hunden im Frühjahr 2022 Texel besuchen werde. Es sollte ihr siebter Inselaufenthalt werden. Ein Urlaub mit Hund am Meer klang fantastisch! Deshalb stießen wir dazu.
Martina reist mit ihren Rhodesian Ridgebacks Charly und Raban. Buddy kannte Raban schon von einem Besuch im Westerwald, mit Jungspund Charly freundete er sich schnell an und tobte mit ihm über den Strand.

Hundefreundliches Hotel mit Garten
Wir hatten es wie Martina und Thomas gemacht und im 3 Sterne Hotel Prins Hendrik (Stuifweg 13, Oosterend) eines der 20 Zimmer gebucht. Unser Hotelzimmer war genau richtig groß für uns drei. Es war wie Restaurant und Aufenthaltsraum schön eingerichtet und gemütlich. Die Mitarbeiter:innen waren sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Der Aufschlag für unser Schlappohr betrug 7,50 Euro pro Tag. Völlig in Ordnung, wie ich finde.
Unser Gartenzimmer hatte eine kleine Terrasse mit zwei Stühlen und einem Tisch. Im Zimmer nutzten wir die Kaffeemaschine. Anschließend ließen wir uns mit Kaffee und Keksen draußen nieder.
Leider war der Garten nicht eingezäunt. Aber Buddy blieb sowieso in unserer Nähe, das erscheint ihm in fremden Umgebungen immer sicherer. Nicht, dass jemand vom Rudel abhaut.
Unser Schlappohr bleibt nicht gerne allein. Deshalb wechselten Carsten und ich uns mit dem Frühstück ab. Am Buffet fand ich auch als Veganerin etwas, z. B. Pflanzenmilch zum leckeren Granola mit Obst oder Erdnussbutter mit Marmelade fürs Brötchen.
Das Abendessen hatten wir zweimal im Hotelrestaurant, dazu nahmen wir Buddy mit. Die beiden Ridgebacks blieben in dieser Zeit auf dem Zimmer und relaxten dort.
Auf der Speisekarte standen ein paar vegetarische Optionen, die ich in rein pflanzlich ändern lassen konnte. Einmal aß ich einen Beyond Burger mit Pommes (18 Euro), dann ein Blumenkohlsteak (18 Euro) und ein superleckeres Sorbet mit frischen Früchten (8,50 Euro).
Unser Hotel befand sich auf der Wattenmeerseite am Deich, auf dem Schafe grasten. Die kleinen Gassirunden drehten wir hier mit Buddy an der Leine. Bis zum Strand am Leuchtturm für die großen Runden ohne Leine waren es rund zehn Kilometer.
Wo ist es am schönsten auf Texel?
Bei unserem ersten Urlaub auf Texel mit Hund verliebte ich mich gleich in den endlosen Nordseestrand. Ich mochte die Traumstrände mit feinem und hellem Sand, die Dünen, den Leuchtturm und die Strandpavillons sowie Strandhäuschen sehr.
Dann gibt es noch die sieben Dörfer. Im beliebten Strandort De Koog war am meisten los, im Hauptort Den Burg kauften wir ein und durch das niedliche Oosterend mit seinen Giebelhäusern bummelten wir gemütlich.
Mit Hund am Strand – oft auch ohne Leine erlaubt
Wir freuten uns darüber, dass Fellnasen am Strand erlaubt sind und oft sogar ohne Leine frei laufen dürfen. Das finde ich toll! Sonst müssen wir beim Urlaub am Meer oft nach einem extra Hundestrand suchen.
An den bewachten Strandabschnitten sowie an den FKK-Stränden gilt allerdings eine Leinenpflicht.
Die Strandabschnitte werden „Paal“ genannt. Südlich von Paal 8 sowie zwischen Paal 12 und 21 müssen Hundebesitzer:innen ihre Vierbeiner vom 1. März bis 1. September an die Leine nehmen.

Ein echter Traumstrand beim Leuchtturm
Wo ist der schönste Strand auf Texel? Ich fand den Strand am Leuchtturm atemberaubend: endlos weit, mit Pudersand und relativ wenig Leuten oder Hunden. Ein echtes Highlight!
Der Strand war so lang und breit, dass wir andere meist nur in weiter Entfernung sahen. Hier sausten unsere Hunde über den Strand. Buddy buddelte und steckte versuchsweise eine Pfote ins Wasser, blieb aber dann doch lieber auf dem Trockenen.
Der rote, 150 Jahre alte Leuchtturm ist eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten von Texel. Die Wendeltreppe mit 153 Stufen könnt ihr hinaufsteigen. Von dort oben müsst ihr einen gigantischen Ausblick haben.
Nach einer unserer Strandrunde ergatterten wir einen Tisch im Strandpavillon Faro 2 beim Leuchtturm. Leider war wegen des Personalmangels – der uns häufiger begegnete – nur der Innenbereich geöffnet, nicht der Außenbereich. Da es mit drei Hunden im gut besuchten Raum etwas eng wurde, zogen wir weiter.
Badeort De Koog
De Koog liegt an einem sehr schönen Strand mit Strandhäuschen und Strandpavillons.
Nachmittags haben wir im Beachclub Texel ohne Reservierung keinen Platz bekommen. Wirklich schade, denn mit Hund hätten wir hinein gedurft und der Außenbereich sah sehr einladend aus. Reserviert also besser, wenn ihr dort draußen in der Sonne sitzen wollt. Hier gibt es auch High Tea in herzhaft oder süß, leider nichts für mich als Veganerin.
Auf dem Hin- und Rückweg liefen wir am Campingplatz Kogerstrand in den Dünen vorbei – traumhaft gelegen.
Im lebendigen Ort setzten wir uns draußen ins Restaurant Oranjerie ‘t Vogelhuis (Dorpsstraat 204). Dort gab es für mich einen veganen Beyond Burger mit Pommes für 18,50 Euro. Nachdem Buddy den Nachbarhund beschnuppert und etwas getrunken hatte, legte er sich in den Schatten und döste eine Runde vor sich hin.
Strandhäuschen mieten oder fotografieren
Besonders hübsch fand ich die „strandhuisjes“, wie hier bei Paal 17 oder bei Paal 19.
Ihr könnt sie an vielen Strandabschnitten mieten: nicht zum Übernachten, aber ausgerüstet etwa mit Liegestühlen oder Windschutz für einen gemütlichen Strandtag mit Hund. Zu haben sind sie auch für eine Woche oder gar die ganze Saison. Martina hat das schon ausprobiert.
Beim Strandpavillon Paal 17 bekommt ihr eine Strandhütte von Mai bis September, die Woche kostet rund 130 bis 160 Euro. Beim Strandpaviljoen Paal 19 ist die Miete von Juni bis August möglich, z. B. für eine Woche (120 Euro). Alles Stand Mai 2022, die aktuellen Preise müsstet ihr selbst noch einmal checken.
Die Strandhäuser sind auf jeden Fall ein toller Fotospot, etwa fürs Erinnerungsfoto von euch oder eurem Vierbeiner.
Strandpavillon Kaap Noord: Abendessen mit Meerblick
Für einen Abend hatten Martina und Thomas einen Tisch in ihrem Lieblingsrestaurant reserviert. Der Strandpavillon Kaap Noord liegt in der Nähe des Leuchtturms (Volharding 4, De Cocksdorp).
Draußen standen Wassernäpfe für Hunde bereit, das war etwas für Raban und Charly. Denn Buddy war mit Carsten auf dem Hotelzimmer geblieben, unser kleiner Hibbel musste sich von dem trubeligen Tag erholen.
Der Außenbereich des Restaurants war nicht geöffnet, dafür war es auch zu kühl. Innen war das Kaap Noord gemütlich eingerichtet mit schönen Möbeln, Lampen und Deko. Eine breite Fensterfront gab den Blick aufs Meer frei. Leider war es bewölkt, der Sonnenuntergang von hier aus muss so toll anzuschauen sein.
Das vegane Essen hier war das beste, das ich auf der Insel probierte. Für mich gab es das Rendang Curry mit Kichererbsen, Wildreis und geröstetem Spitzkohl (19,25 Euro). Der Kohl war schön knackig und passte perfekt zum gut gewürzten, cremigen Curryreis.
Hauptort Den Burg mit Café und Shops
Auf einen Tipp von Mosaic of Travel hin besuchten wir das niedliche Lokaal 16 (Gravenstraat 16). Direkt vor dem Café standen Tische. Wir gingen jedoch hinein, an der Theke vorbei, ein paar Treppen hinunter und setzten uns dort hin. Wir sahen, dass es draußen im Innenhof weitere Sitzplätze gab.
Hier bestellte ich veganen Dattel-Walnuss-Kuchen (3,75 Euro) und eine Latte mit Hafermilch (3,60 Euro). Übrigens könnt ihr nur mit Karte bezahlen, nicht mit Bargeld.
In Den Burg findet ihr einige schöne Geschäfte. So kaufte ich Outdoorkleidung bei De Kolonist (Weverstraat 50). Die Softshelljacken von Nordberg sahen schick aus, waren relativ günstig und passten auch mir mit 1,80 m und in einer größeren Größe. Perfekt für die Gassirunden!
In dem Ort sahen wir auch De Texelse Dierenwinkel (Vogelenzang 5), das größte Tiergeschäft der Insel. Zudem gibt es für Notfälle eine Tierarztpraxis (Keesomlaan 11).
Weitere Ideen für Urlaub mit Hund
Bei Paal 17 entdecken wir ein Doggy Cab, ein E-Bike mit Hundetransportbox. Ihr könnt es z. B. bei Fietsen op Texel mieten.
Außerdem fand ich die Hundewaschstraße interessant, die Dogwash-Hundewäsche findet ihr im Ferienpark De Krim (Roggeslootweg 10, De Cocksdorp). Dort könnt ihr eure Hunde von Sandnase und –pfoten befreien.
Beim nächsten Mal Texel mit Hund möchte ich gerne mehr von der Natur sehen. So dürfen Hunde in den Waldgebieten Dennenbos und Krimbos frei laufen.
Martina schwärmte vom Naturschutzgebiet De Slufter, mit dem ihr samt angeleintem Hund wandern könnt. Es ist das einzige Gebiet der Niederlande, in das das Meer ungehindert einströmen kann. Mein Fazit zu Texel mit Hund
Die Insel haben wir als sehr hundefreundlich erlebt. Bisher gingen nur in Polen die Menschen ähnlich gelassen und freundlich mit unserem großen Hund um.
Es war toll, dass Buddy den Strand nutzen und oft frei laufen durfte. Auch war schön, dass wir ihn ins Hotelrestaurant, in Strandrestaurants sowie andere Lokale mitnehmen konnten.
An unserem hundefreundlichen Hotel Prins Hendrik gefielen uns außerdem der Gartenzugang und dass wir in der unmittelbaren Umgebung Gassi gehen konnten.
Unterwegs im Auto
Zur Anreise: Von uns in Mönchengladbach (NRW) bei der niederländischen Grenze aus waren es rund 300 km nach Den Helder, wo die Fähre ablegte. Da die Osterferien vorbei waren, hatten wir weitgehend leere Straßen. Allerdings feierten die Niederländer am 27. April Königstag, deshalb war die Fähre umso voller.
Anders als andere Inseln ist Texel nicht autofrei. Die Insel ist so groß, dass wir froh über unser Auto waren.
Das mag anders sein, wenn ihr etwa Camping mit Hund in De Koog macht und von dort aus zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad startet.
Auf Martinas Hinweis hin hatte ich auf der Website den Texel-Parkausweis für eine Woche (20 Euro) gekauft. So konnten wir unser Auto einfach parken, ohne auf den Parkplätzen einzelne Tickets ziehen zu müssen.
Ruckzuck mit der Fähre nach Texel
Die Fähre von Den Helder nach Texel legt je nach Tageszeit stündlich oder halbstündlich ab. Auf der Website kaufte ich vorab die Hin- und Rückfahrkarte. Man braucht kein Datum und keine Uhrzeit zu reservieren.
Da ich unser Autokennzeichen angegeben hatte, öffnete sich nach der automatischen Erfassung die Schranke. Auf der Rückreise wurden die Tickets nicht kontrolliert.
Unsere Fähre legte pünktlich ab und brauchte nur 20 Minuten. Carsten blieb mit Buddy im Auto. Währenddessen stieg ich die steile Treppe hinauf zum Bereich mit Buffet, Innen- und Außenplätzen sowie Toiletten.
An diesem Tag war es ziemlich windig, doch ich merkte keinen Wellengang. So wurde ich nicht seekrank. Stattdessen stand ich draußen im Wind, sah die Insel langsam näher kommen und hörte über mir die Möwen schreien. Es war eine schöne Einstimmung auf unsere Kurzreise.
Auch auf der Rückfahrt ließ ich es mir nicht nehmen, draußen an Deck die Aussicht zu erleben.
Das Wetter im April
Ende April war das Wetter wechselhaft: mal sonnig und wärmer, mal bedeckt und kühler. Aber es regnete nicht. Beim nächsten Mal würden wir jedoch vermutlich etwas später im Jahr reisen.
Bei tagsüber acht bis elf Grad hatte ich bei den Strandspaziergängen einen Wintermantel, Schal und Mütze an. Buddy besitzt als Vizsla keine wärmende Unterwolle, deshalb trug er dort seinen Hundemantel.
Wenn wir draußen in Cafés oder Restaurants in der Sonne saßen, reichte oft eine Softshelljacke oder sogar nur ein Pulli.
Bei der Hinfahrt hatten wir auf Texel Tulpenfelder bei Den Hoorn gesehen. Auf der Rückfahrt machten wir einen Zwischenstopp bei Floratuin Julianadorp (Rijksweg 85), hier bewunderten wir endlose Blumenmeere in verschiedenen Farben.

Reisen mit großem Hund
Seit Juni 2018 lebt Vizsla Buddy bei uns, er war damals acht Monate alt. Mit ihm sind wir im Auto in Deutschland und Europa unterwegs. Reisen mit Hund klappt mit unserer großen, quicklebendigen Zimtnase mittlerweile gut.
Denn das Autofahren verträgt er ohne Probleme. Auch schläft er in Hotelzimmer oder Ferienwohnung entspannt auf seinem Hundebett.
Doch draußen reagiert er auf alle Reize und ist manchmal hibbelig. Café- und Restaurantbesuche findet er eher langweilig. Viel lieber dreht er am Strand, im Wald oder auf Wiesen seine Runden.
Entspannter Hundeurlaub auf Texel
Warum wir Hundeurlaub auf der Insel machten? Sie gilt als sehr hundefreundlich. Außerdem hatte ich mich auf Soloreisen schon in die anderen westfriesischen Inseln Terschelling und Ameland verliebt.
Auf Ameland war ich im Herbst 2021 mit Martina vom Blog Hunde reisen mehr. Dort erzählte sie mir, dass sie mit ihrem Mann Thomas und ihren zwei Hunden im Frühjahr 2022 Texel besuchen werde. Es sollte ihr siebter Inselaufenthalt werden. Ein Urlaub mit Hund am Meer klang fantastisch! Deshalb stießen wir dazu.
Martina reist mit ihren Rhodesian Ridgebacks Charly und Raban. Buddy kannte Raban schon von einem Besuch im Westerwald, mit Jungspund Charly freundete er sich schnell an und tobte mit ihm über den Strand.

Hundefreundliches Hotel mit Garten
Wir hatten es wie Martina und Thomas gemacht und im 3 Sterne Hotel Prins Hendrik (Stuifweg 13, Oosterend) eines der 20 Zimmer gebucht. Unser Hotelzimmer war genau richtig groß für uns drei. Es war wie Restaurant und Aufenthaltsraum schön eingerichtet und gemütlich. Die Mitarbeiter:innen waren sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Der Aufschlag für unser Schlappohr betrug 7,50 Euro pro Tag. Völlig in Ordnung, wie ich finde.
Unser Gartenzimmer hatte eine kleine Terrasse mit zwei Stühlen und einem Tisch. Im Zimmer nutzten wir die Kaffeemaschine. Anschließend ließen wir uns mit Kaffee und Keksen draußen nieder.
Leider war der Garten nicht eingezäunt. Aber Buddy blieb sowieso in unserer Nähe, das erscheint ihm in fremden Umgebungen immer sicherer. Nicht, dass jemand vom Rudel abhaut.
Unser Schlappohr bleibt nicht gerne allein. Deshalb wechselten Carsten und ich uns mit dem Frühstück ab. Am Buffet fand ich auch als Veganerin etwas, z. B. Pflanzenmilch zum leckeren Granola mit Obst oder Erdnussbutter mit Marmelade fürs Brötchen.
Das Abendessen hatten wir zweimal im Hotelrestaurant, dazu nahmen wir Buddy mit. Die beiden Ridgebacks blieben in dieser Zeit auf dem Zimmer und relaxten dort.
Auf der Speisekarte standen ein paar vegetarische Optionen, die ich in rein pflanzlich ändern lassen konnte. Einmal aß ich einen Beyond Burger mit Pommes (18 Euro), dann ein Blumenkohlsteak (18 Euro) und ein superleckeres Sorbet mit frischen Früchten (8,50 Euro).
Unser Hotel befand sich auf der Wattenmeerseite am Deich, auf dem Schafe grasten. Die kleinen Gassirunden drehten wir hier mit Buddy an der Leine. Bis zum Strand am Leuchtturm für die großen Runden ohne Leine waren es rund zehn Kilometer.
Wo ist es am schönsten auf Texel?
Bei unserem ersten Urlaub auf Texel mit Hund verliebte ich mich gleich in den endlosen Nordseestrand. Ich mochte die Traumstrände mit feinem und hellem Sand, die Dünen, den Leuchtturm und die Strandpavillons sowie Strandhäuschen sehr.
Dann gibt es noch die sieben Dörfer. Im beliebten Strandort De Koog war am meisten los, im Hauptort Den Burg kauften wir ein und durch das niedliche Oosterend mit seinen Giebelhäusern bummelten wir gemütlich.
Mit Hund am Strand – oft auch ohne Leine erlaubt
Wir freuten uns darüber, dass Fellnasen am Strand erlaubt sind und oft sogar ohne Leine frei laufen dürfen. Das finde ich toll! Sonst müssen wir beim Urlaub am Meer oft nach einem extra Hundestrand suchen.
An den bewachten Strandabschnitten sowie an den FKK-Stränden gilt allerdings eine Leinenpflicht.
Die Strandabschnitte werden „Paal“ genannt. Südlich von Paal 8 sowie zwischen Paal 12 und 21 müssen Hundebesitzer:innen ihre Vierbeiner vom 1. März bis 1. September an die Leine nehmen.

Ein echter Traumstrand beim Leuchtturm
Wo ist der schönste Strand auf Texel? Ich fand den Strand am Leuchtturm atemberaubend: endlos weit, mit Pudersand und relativ wenig Leuten oder Hunden. Ein echtes Highlight!
Der Strand war so lang und breit, dass wir andere meist nur in weiter Entfernung sahen. Hier sausten unsere Hunde über den Strand. Buddy buddelte und steckte versuchsweise eine Pfote ins Wasser, blieb aber dann doch lieber auf dem Trockenen.
Der rote, 150 Jahre alte Leuchtturm ist eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten von Texel. Die Wendeltreppe mit 153 Stufen könnt ihr hinaufsteigen. Von dort oben müsst ihr einen gigantischen Ausblick haben.
Nach einer unserer Strandrunde ergatterten wir einen Tisch im Strandpavillon Faro 2 beim Leuchtturm. Leider war wegen des Personalmangels – der uns häufiger begegnete – nur der Innenbereich geöffnet, nicht der Außenbereich. Da es mit drei Hunden im gut besuchten Raum etwas eng wurde, zogen wir weiter.
Badeort De Koog
De Koog liegt an einem sehr schönen Strand mit Strandhäuschen und Strandpavillons.

Anders als andere Inseln ist Texel nicht autofrei. Die Insel ist so groß, dass wir froh über unser Auto waren.
Das mag anders sein, wenn ihr etwa Camping mit Hund in De Koog macht und von dort aus zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad startet.
Auf Martinas Hinweis hin hatte ich auf der Website den Texel-Parkausweis für eine Woche (20 Euro) gekauft. So konnten wir unser Auto einfach parken, ohne auf den Parkplätzen einzelne Tickets ziehen zu müssen.
Ruckzuck mit der Fähre nach Texel
Die Fähre von Den Helder nach Texel legt je nach Tageszeit stündlich oder halbstündlich ab. Auf der Website kaufte ich vorab die Hin- und Rückfahrkarte. Man braucht kein Datum und keine Uhrzeit zu reservieren.
Da ich unser Autokennzeichen angegeben hatte, öffnete sich nach der automatischen Erfassung die Schranke. Auf der Rückreise wurden die Tickets nicht kontrolliert.
Unsere Fähre legte pünktlich ab und brauchte nur 20 Minuten. Carsten blieb mit Buddy im Auto. Währenddessen stieg ich die steile Treppe hinauf zum Bereich mit Buffet, Innen- und Außenplätzen sowie Toiletten.
An diesem Tag war es ziemlich windig, doch ich merkte keinen Wellengang. So wurde ich nicht seekrank. Stattdessen stand ich draußen im Wind, sah die Insel langsam näher kommen und hörte über mir die Möwen schreien. Es war eine schöne Einstimmung auf unsere Kurzreise.
Auch auf der Rückfahrt ließ ich es mir nicht nehmen, draußen an Deck die Aussicht zu erleben.
Das Wetter im April
Ende April war das Wetter wechselhaft: mal sonnig und wärmer, mal bedeckt und kühler. Aber es regnete nicht. Beim nächsten Mal würden wir jedoch vermutlich etwas später im Jahr reisen.
Bei tagsüber acht bis elf Grad hatte ich bei den Strandspaziergängen einen Wintermantel, Schal und Mütze an. Buddy besitzt als Vizsla keine wärmende Unterwolle, deshalb trug er dort seinen Hundemantel.
Wenn wir draußen in Cafés oder Restaurants in der Sonne saßen, reichte oft eine Softshelljacke oder sogar nur ein Pulli.
Bei der Hinfahrt hatten wir auf Texel Tulpenfelder bei Den Hoorn gesehen. Auf der Rückfahrt machten wir einen Zwischenstopp bei Floratuin Julianadorp (Rijksweg 85), hier bewunderten wir endlose Blumenmeere in verschiedenen Farben.

I’ve always tried to find ways to generate enough revenue to justify my blog time without “Bam in you face” ads. So far, I’ve been doing this for practically no money. I produce, you benefit.
Various attempts at “soft” monetization have turned out to be impractical or impractical. I am eternally grateful to the ten brave readers and the handful of one-time payers who have supported me on a voluntary basis via Steady or PayPal. Advertising with ezoic
I hesitated with this step for a long time. Over the past year, however, I have observed several travel blogs that have incorporated advertising about ezoic. All colleagues unanimously report that this has not led to a large decrease in the number of clicks. (And that the earnings make up for the lost Karma Points.)
I chose ezoic because the implementation seems feasible to me as a non-technical person. (They have good support, which I rely on completely.) And because they pay per view, not per click. (I think a lot of you and don’t think that you’ll fall for dubious weight loss pills and loan sharks. Luckily I’ve mainly seen advertising flashing here so far, which I would have considered as a partner. Which individual ads showed I have very little influence on that. was should not be played out. The same applies to the placement of the ads. And the fact that not every advertisement is properly labeled as such just infuriates me. I have to ask again because, as far as I know, that’s not legal.)
Anyway, I hope you just ignore the ads and keep reading my texts. Because I would like to continue to provide helpful tips and testimonials to imitate in the future to help you have a great holiday with your children!

Time for the wheat germ to return – how can we throw away something so useful?
Wheat germ – a residual product from the production of wheat flour – looks pretty harmless. Nowadays, these yellow-beige flakes often become animal feed, but it is to throw pearls to the pigs! Behind the dull façade hides lots of nutrients. In addition, wheat germ contains the substance spermidine, which in animal experiments has been shown to prolong life.
The circle is complete. That’s how it felt when I first snuck some wheat germ into my children’s pancakes, because my grandmother was a wheat germ fan. She had it on her morning file. My guess is that she was inspired by the healthy athlete Are Waerland, who already in the 1930s preached that we should take care of our intestinal flora and health. Wheat sprouts contain a large part of the wheat nutrients
The first came when I filed the chapter on how the food industry processes wheat grains and shapes ingredients such as maltodextrin, glucose syrup and glucose. In the first stage, the industry breaks down the nutrient-rich grains into its constituents: seed white, bran and germ. The seed white – the wheat’s energy depot – turns into wheat flour. The bran and sprout are removed and often become animal feed.
When I wrote this, I got a whim: to compare the nutritional content of wheat flour, wheat bran and wheat germ. Said and done, I looked them up in The National Food Administration’s food database. The result was striking:
I had known for a long time that wheat flour is poor in nutrients, but I had no idea that about 90 percent of the wheat nutrients disappear when you make wheat flour. No wonder the National Food Administration is nagging us to eat whole grains. The pictures show just some of all the vitamins and minerals we need, but the pattern is the same for the majority of wheat all nutrients. Most of it is found in the bran and sprout, which at present often becomes animal feed. So we eat the energy. The animals get the nutrition.
Wheat sprouts in pancakes – a hit
When I saw the difference, I remembered that yellow-beige wheat germ pile that my grandmother had on her file. Suddenly I realized how right she was. So I decided to buy some wheat sprouts, but they were not easy to find. Smaller stores rarely sell them, in larger stores they are usually found among different flour variants.
My first test was to have wheat germ in my home-baked rolls. In them I mix a little different types of flour, such as sorghum, buckwheat and oats. The result of the experiment: a juicier bread. After that, I snuck wheat sprouts into my superpower pancakes.
Nobody noticed anything. Here is the recipe:
6 eggs
0.5 dl wheat germ
0.5 dl buckwheat, sorghum or teff flour
1 dl oatmeal
1 dl wheat flour
0.75 teaspoons salt
5 dl milk
75 grams butter + butter for frying
Whisk the eggs with the dry ingredients to a smooth batter. Stir in the milk. Melt the butter and whisk in. If you have time: let the batter stand for 15-30 min. This will make it easier to fry the pancakes. Use a slightly smaller frying pan. The pancakes will be best if you fry them thin!
The interesting thing was that wheat germ did not change the taste. They became like an imperceptible nutritional supplement. Therefore, I also poured in half a deciliter in them low-sugar high-spices pepparkakor which I baked for Christmas.
A little twisted, I agree, but you see for yourself in the picture. There is no trace of the wheat sprouts. It actually worked great.
The substance spermidine seems to prolong life
So to the next insight. It came when I read Jellyfish age backwards by Nicklas Brendborg, a terribly interesting book that I can really recommend. Among other things, he talks about the substance spermidine, which we produce in our own body and which is also found in abundant amounts in wheat germ. Spermidine triggers something called autophagy; a process in which our cells begin to clean up old damaged material and which seem to protect against aging.
This made me start rooting in the research on spermidine and it became a fact box in Fejkmaten (which was then actually completed). In scientific experiments where flies, worms and mice have received spermidine, it has been seen that their lives have been extended.
Time for the wheat germ revival
Whether spermidine can also prolong the life of us humans is still written in the stars, but I still think it’s time for the wheat germ revival. Recently I also had it on my file. Then the Trille troll suddenly came to me. It was a crazy little character that my grandmother used to tell me about. I have not thought of him in very many years. He always did a lot of mischief. That said, the circle is closed.

If this word scares you, I reassure you. These three weeks are intended to teach us that a healthy diet is not only important, but also fully achievable without much sacrifice. And with it – better well-being and more energy, which we gain by providing the body with the necessary nutrients in the right doses.
We will learn what is healthy, balanced eatingbut at the same time we will treat ourselves to it sugar detox. For the duration of the challenge, we will try to put aside unhealthy snacks full of refined sugar, beverages sweetened with it and stop sweetening coffee and tea with it. Additionally we will learn the basics of proper supplementation – because it often happens that even despite a healthy diet, we lack something in the body (I’m looking at you, vitamin D). There is nothing wrong with the correct, balanced supplementation of minerals and vitamins! Finally, we will reinforce the habit I repeat like a mantra because it is so incredibly important – irrigation. We need water not only for survival, but also for a healthy and full life! We feel water shortages in every possible way, our condition, well-being, concentration, skin, hair, nails, but also the immune, digestive and blood systems suffer from them. Without water, we lose our strength, which is why fluid replenishment is crucial!

Now we come to the step I want to focus on the most today. You know – warm months are approaching, i.e. the season for shorts, dresses, short sleeves, and finally also for swimsuits. Wouldn’t it be good to enjoy firm and smooth skin to match the set with a great frame of mind and a dream figure? 🙂
This is why body care rituals will be among the habits we will work on. I got you used to the fact that we usually pay the most attention to the face, but not this time! If we want to feel as beautiful as possible in our skin, we have to take care of it! I already tell you how to do this.
We start in the morning, of course. Those of us who like morning showers (but also those “evening” ones!) Should definitely reach for a shower gel (RE)START, BABYwhich contains a large dose of probiotics. It not only perfectly cleanses the skin and refreshes us with the scent of citrus, but also “feeds” the naturally occurring beneficial bacteria on the skin. The proper microflora of the skin is its first shield against harmful microorganisms, it allows it to maintain its balance and strengthens it. Today is the big day, the most important, fashion, irreverent, surprising night on the red carpet worldwide: the Met Ball! As I’m always asked, I decided to make a warm-up post on the topic so we can organize our expectations!
For this edition, Anna Wintour and the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute team chose “Gilded Glamour” as the continuation theme of the last Met and, as usual, the co-hosts who will open the red carpet works will be: Blake Lively (! !!), Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda. And we can expect one thing: glamour, exaggeration and opulence.
The so-called American golden age lasted a period of 30 years at the end of the 19th century, in which industrialists and real estate magnates saw their fortunes multiply thanks to the rapid growth of cities and their surroundings. You know the “old money” agenda from the other day? It was more or less that, in an era where Vanderbilt, Rockefeller and other famous New York surnames dominated the city of NY very similar to Gossip Girl but from the Gilded Era.
And where does fashion fit into this? “You are, what you wear”, of course, where there is money, there is ostentation and status, all represented with many opulent, structured clothes, with applications, lace, embroidery. The colors followed the jewelry chart, from gold and its nuances to lively tones of precious stones. The clothes were pompous, the accessories exaggerated (some clothes even had wings), gloves were dramatic and hats carried feathers and stuffed dead birds. Yes, we may see details like this later!
For the Gilded season, forget about Bridgerton and focus on the show Gilded Age! We will see many corsets, corselets, laces and everything that enhances the body and, yes, in the most archaic ways possible. Thin waist, huge derrières!
This is the most obvious and traditional side of the golden age, but along with that, it is also possible to expect a revolution against lace and corsets. Fashion is a master at subverting and with this era it could not be different, because formality is also bold and the theme is full plate for the deconstruction of a theme and aesthetic, between us, quite outdated.
I think it will be an easy theme to incorporate as it can be visually obvious and adorably challenging, but we can also expect timing errors and confusion regarding eras with similar but different aesthetics to the theme.
And which designers and brands most represent the American golden age? Of course, local stylists will be very welcome, like Zac Posen (who no longer presents, but has an iconic collection) to the new generation like Christopher John Rogers. Overall, from Vivienne Westwood to Galliano in her Dior era, Gucci (Tom Ford is one of the hosts, after all) to McQueen. Glenn Martens to Elie Saab and their operatic gowns.
Finally, and just like every #BailedoMet, we will see 3 editorial lines: those that are totally representative, basically as a “custom”, a fantasy; those that use a detail, an artifice to include themselves in the theme; and the ones that go from pretty and simple like that, a lot for the VIP presence and even more because they simply go for a brand and can’t go much further than that. And what makes #MetGala THE fashion event of the year is just that, this adorable smorgasbord where we expect a lot and generally deliver at a high level!
Personally, I like it when celebrities choose a specific look for a figure from that era and incorporate it into today, full of references (this happened a lot last year). And, for me, that’s where Anna Wintour’s finger-and-mind comes in, serving these historical and fashion refreshments and not choosing runway looks as previously mentioned.

Seit Juni 2018 lebt Vizsla Buddy bei uns, er war damals acht Monate alt. Mit ihm sind wir im Auto in Deutschland und Europa unterwegs. Reisen mit Hund klappt mit unserer großen, quicklebendigen Zimtnase mittlerweile gut.
Warum wir Hundeurlaub auf der Insel machten? Sie gilt als sehr hundefreundlich. Außerdem hatte ich mich auf Soloreisen schon in die anderen westfriesischen Inseln Terschelling und Ameland verliebt.
Martina reist mit ihren Rhodesian Ridgebacks Charly und Raban. Buddy kannte Raban schon von einem Besuch im Westerwald, mit Jungspund Charly freundete er sich schnell an und tobte mit ihm über den Strand.
Wir hatten es wie Martina und Thomas gemacht und im 3 Sterne 
Unser Gartenzimmer hatte eine kleine Terrasse mit zwei Stühlen und einem Tisch. Im Zimmer nutzten wir die Kaffeemaschine. Anschließend ließen wir uns mit Kaffee und Keksen draußen nieder.
Unser Hotel befand sich auf der Wattenmeerseite am Deich, auf dem Schafe grasten. Die kleinen Gassirunden drehten wir hier mit Buddy an der Leine. Bis zum Strand am Leuchtturm für die großen Runden ohne Leine waren es rund zehn Kilometer.
Bei unserem ersten Urlaub auf Texel mit Hund verliebte ich mich gleich in den endlosen Nordseestrand. Ich mochte die Traumstrände mit feinem und hellem Sand, die Dünen, den Leuchtturm und die Strandpavillons sowie Strandhäuschen sehr.
Wir freuten uns darüber, dass Fellnasen am Strand erlaubt sind und oft sogar ohne Leine frei laufen dürfen. Das finde ich toll! Sonst müssen wir beim Urlaub am Meer oft nach einem extra Hundestrand suchen.
Wo ist der schönste Strand auf Texel? Ich fand den Strand am Leuchtturm atemberaubend: endlos weit, mit Pudersand und relativ wenig Leuten oder Hunden. Ein echtes Highlight!
Der Strand war so lang und breit, dass wir andere meist nur in weiter Entfernung sahen. Hier sausten unsere Hunde über den Strand. Buddy buddelte und steckte versuchsweise eine Pfote ins Wasser, blieb aber dann doch lieber auf dem Trockenen.
Der rote, 150 Jahre alte Leuchtturm ist eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten von Texel. Die Wendeltreppe mit 153 Stufen könnt ihr hinaufsteigen. Von dort oben müsst ihr einen gigantischen Ausblick haben.
Nach einer unserer Strandrunde ergatterten wir einen Tisch im Strandpavillon Faro 2 beim Leuchtturm. Leider war wegen des Personalmangels – der uns häufiger begegnete – nur der Innenbereich geöffnet, nicht der Außenbereich. Da es mit drei Hunden im gut besuchten Raum etwas eng wurde, zogen wir weiter.
De Koog liegt an einem sehr schönen Strand mit Strandhäuschen und Strandpavillons.
Im lebendigen Ort setzten wir uns draußen ins Restaurant Oranjerie ‘t Vogelhuis (Dorpsstraat 204). Dort gab es für mich einen veganen Beyond Burger mit Pommes für 18,50 Euro. Nachdem Buddy den Nachbarhund beschnuppert und etwas getrunken hatte, legte er sich in den Schatten und döste eine Runde vor sich hin.
Besonders hübsch fand ich die „strandhuisjes“, wie hier bei Paal 17 oder bei Paal 19.
Für einen Abend hatten Martina und Thomas einen Tisch in ihrem Lieblingsrestaurant reserviert. Der Strandpavillon Kaap Noord liegt in der Nähe des Leuchtturms (Volharding 4, De Cocksdorp).
Auf einen Tipp von 
Bei Paal 17 entdecken wir ein Doggy Cab, ein E-Bike mit Hundetransportbox. Ihr könnt es z. B. bei Fietsen op Texel mieten.
Die Insel haben wir als sehr hundefreundlich erlebt. Bisher gingen nur in Polen die Menschen ähnlich gelassen und freundlich mit unserem großen Hund um.
Zur Anreise: Von uns in Mönchengladbach (NRW) bei der niederländischen Grenze aus waren es rund 300 km nach Den Helder, wo die Fähre ablegte. Da die Osterferien vorbei waren, hatten wir weitgehend leere Straßen. Allerdings feierten die Niederländer am 27. April Königstag, deshalb war die Fähre umso voller.
Die Fähre von Den Helder nach Texel legt je nach Tageszeit stündlich oder halbstündlich ab. Auf der 
Ende April war das Wetter wechselhaft: mal sonnig und wärmer, mal bedeckt und kühler. Aber es regnete nicht. Beim nächsten Mal würden wir jedoch vermutlich etwas später im Jahr reisen.
